Gulab Tandoori — Restaurant in Chesterfield

We went to this restaurant based on the reviews. On first outside glances it looks small but once inside we were greeted so politely and immediately made to feel welcome. We ordered drinks and poppadoms then onto the starters. There was only 2 of us but we ordered onion bhajis, samosas, and chicken chat. Oh my gosh!! The bhajis were light, crispy and full of flavour and the chicken chat was the best I’ve eaten in a long time. My mum really enjoyed the samosa and I didn’t get a look in 🤣. For main, we both ordered a biriyani. You could really taste those beautiful spices they used in the rice and the vegetable curry was lovely and full of lovely veggies that were not over cooked (always a treat). We did ordered a garlic naan but couldn’t touch it due to the masses of food we already had eaten. Perfect food, perfect hosts. So glad we went....

Well our two day blitz from E.Sussex up to Derbyshire, has turned into a curry fest. Last night we ate an incredibly delicious Bangladeshi meal at #thegulabtandoori The Gulab Tandoori in Chesterfield; the wonky spire town. We so enjoyed our meal that we returned again this evening. My wife Sue 'Gulab Jamun' who is half Indian was thoroughly impressed, as was I. She rates it the most authentic Indian food that she has ever had outside of India. Ordered some food for my husband's birthday yesterday evening after reading all the good reviews. Instead of ordering from usual Indian takeaway, wanted to order from a restaurant to make it special and even went and collected it since they dont do delivery. What a waste it was. It was the worst indian we ever had, it was so disappointing. Curries and biryani were so bland and tasteless, they have used old pre cooked meat, meat was dry and hard, and no taste of spices or flavour. Tandoori roti and naan bread were chewy and old as well.
