Written from an 8 Yr old by her auntie: "No toy machines anymore. No gammon. No half chicken. No carvery (stopped now but we didn't know about this) Staff were nice. They all did their job correctly. The play area was nice and had loads of stuff to do. Other than the toy machine and the carvery and gammon, everything was ok. That's it." Auntie's input: sadly we were not aware after the refurb that the carvery is no longer which is a shame ... there was nothing mentioned when booking. We had gone specifically for this which was disappointed but decided to have the roast dinner. Gammon is no longer included for a roast so we opted for the half chicken - which they didn't have any of. The staff were very informative about the refub and reasons why the carvery has stopped (due to waste) and so none of this is on them. They even offered to try and move the gammon from gammon, egg and chips, to a child's plate with mash and veg which was really kind as my niece was hankering after a gammon roast. She always saves some pocket money for the £1 toy machines (like miniature toys/dogs) but they no longer have these machines. The food was actually nice, staff excellent as always. We noticed a selection of board games to play at the table too which is a nice touch. There were plenty of menus on the table but only one Sunday menu which we were asked to share between a table of 6. We normally go as a family of 12 so hopefully that wont be the case next time. Service...we were told food would be 30 minutes due to a table of 20 coming in but food came out as quick as normal, within 15 minutes. The 10% offer for drinks when you order them to your table is excellent. The price of the roast (14.95 plus £2.50 if you wanted a cauliflower cheese for 2) was very steep. Only 50p more to have a steak! At least with the carvery, you could decline certain foods and take the amount you would eat. We actually wasted more food ordering as a roast rather than as a carvery. Maybe if the change is due to waste, adjust Sundays to carvery only and no other meals. This would perhaps avoid any waste left over on the carvery counter at closing time. A little disappointed and will look for a restaurant closer...
Read moreMy brother lives in the area and said he wanted to try it , a young man saw us by the door and filled us in on hiw to order ( scan the coad on the table and order at the bar ) ok 👍 thanks , i had a look for a table to scan and my brother got two pints in , £5 a pint and that was the cheap stuff . The QR coad didn't work so i just went old school and order two carveries and pointed to the table lol 😆 anyhow we was told the carvery was closing in ten minutes this was about 18.30 so we wander over to the carvery and it looked like it was ready to close with bits of meat a d veg , so we said it dose look ready to shut and how we made it before it closed. A five minute wait and one of the waiters walked past and said she won't be long , another five minutes and the girl came out with fresh roast potatoes and put them in the container mix up the mash potatoes and on the way back to the kitchen said i wont be a minute , five minutes later she came out with fresh carrot and put them in the container , then 15 minutes afer we was told by the bar staff it was closing we got are tickets took by a very bord and fed up cook , my brother asked for just beef and he did try to have a joke with her but humour button must have been faulty , i ask for a mix and a slice of each was put on and we finished serving ourselves and my brother ask did she have gravy ? She was off back to the kitchen and i told him it was over there , the veg was.ok but the meat was over cooked and beef full of gristle , after another five minutes the cook came to the table and put a bowl no it and said pigs in blankets , it took so long i forgot i ordered that at a extra cost . Overall nice looking place . Not very well organised . Staff need to speak to people like people, Kitchen staff ( your just warning food your not Gordon Ramsey ) little less attitude its not the people that go in to eat there fault its a nice day and your stuck in a hot kitchen 🙄 . Get a manager with the right attitude it might just make it if not i would shut up shop now , would i go back ? Honestly not even with a free token , the beer at £5 a...
Read moreFirst time visiting since the re-fit and it does look really nice inside and out. As usual staff were lovely and professional.
However, we visited on a Sunday expecting a carvery which we found they no longer have. As we could see there was a roast on the menu, we decided to stay and try it out as the carvery was always decent.
Firstly, the price was very steep for a roast at more than £15 which, if you're used to a small carvery is quite an increase, and you don't get to choose your sides.
Secondly the food itself was really poor. The meat was dry and so were the potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. Not much veg, some very over boiled broccoli and a small amount of carrots with some unseasoned boiled red cabbage. Overall it was very disappointing and with the price considered, very much not value for money.
On top of that, we ordered via the QR code and although in the order summary it showed two drinks, we had three delivered to our table. As we had already paid for all three inadvertantly, didn't really have much choice but to drink it. And the drinks are not cheap. On top of that, the Pedigree ale I ordered at full price on the QR code was half price at the bar which I didn't realize until after paying. Mentioned it to the waitress who said can only manually apply the discount Seems unfair to essentially penalise people for ordering on on their phones when it's basically encouraged with all the signs.
All in all, on leaving after paying a £50 bill for two mains and (three) drinks we felt thoroughly disappointed, not satisfied with the food or price and very much not eager to visit again, which is a shame to say as it was a regular Sunday spot for us.
Says it all really that it was empty on a Sunday when it used to be packed and hard to get a table when the carvery was on....
