To be fair we don't usually eat out on a Sunday, however my son had a Sunday off and asked if I fancied going for lunch, yes please! My son booked for 12:30 we arrived ten minutes early and the very nice young lady said "I can seat you but I can only take your order at 12:30". She asked if we'd like drinks while we looked at the menu, she brought drinks and we both ordered roast beef priced at Ā£25 ; when it arrived it looked very nice though the beef was a little on the rare side. We were asked about salt and pepper, I asked for horseradish which duely arrived, we weren't quick enough to order drinks and no one came back to ask if we wanted drinks. Someone on adjoining table actually sent their beef back because of how rare it was, it might have been nice for the front of house staff to actually say we serve the beef rare is that OK? We both agreed that every other element on the plate was excellent, seasoned beautifully and very tasty. Service wasn't very quick and when our plates were cleared we asked for the for desserts menu. This time when we ordered dessert we also ordered two coffees. My son ordered sticky toffee pudding and I ordered the rhubarb trifle. The sticky toffee pudding went down a treat. Though the other dessert was pleasant, it was a bit underwhelming sadly for Ā£10 The sting in the tail was at 2pm after patchy service we were told we had five minutes before our table had to be vacated. The bar missed out on our drinks order because we were never asked. I was shocked when a table got carried over my head while I was eating. I was so disappointed I've experienced better service in a garden centre which is really sad. Would I go again š¤ I'm honestly not sure. At just under Ā£90 with no alcohol...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePopped in for Sunday lunch as we were turned away from another pub. What a find! This place is amazing, the quality of the food was superb, fresh vegetables and beautifully tender beef for the Sunday roast (as per the picture, two thick slices of beef, roast potatoes, mash, Yorkshire pudding, carrot, tender-stem broccoli, plenty of gravy and a separate dish of cauliflower cheese, I would say a generous medium sized roast). Dessert was a described as a chocolate ādeliceā with a blackcurrant sorbet, topped with salted caramel popcorn. That was very nice and quenched my desire for some sweet even though it wasnāt largest portion it was very rich.
My mum had the lamb shank and polished it off completely (which is rare for her as she is very picky).
The staff were courteous and attentive and deserved their tip.
My only slight gripe relating to the atmosphere (hence the lost point) was the live music which although the guitarist was very talented (and chose a good set of recognisable songs for the middle aged cliental), was a little loud on my visit, but I am sure that this isnāt always the case.
If you are looking for a relaxed Sunday lunch that is a step up from most pubs then this is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family and I ate here to celebrate Mother's Day for my mother. We were a party of 6. The food was very good. We all had a roast and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The desserts were also delicious. Two things: Firstly, we were sat by a window with the sun blazing in, and for two of us, it was absolutely boiling. There are no blinds or curtains on the windows to block the sun out, which was quite uncomfortable. Secondly, halfway through the meal there was live music playing which was so loud that we couldn't hear each other and had to shout across the table. This was extremely annoying and a pity as it was a Mother's Day celebration and it spoilt it for everyone. We asked Denys twice to ask the musician to please turn the amp down as we couldn't have a proper conversation, but nothing was done. This was very disappointing. The restaurant is quite expensive which is fine, but I at least expect to enjoy it without music blaring. It's not a pub. Perhaps the acoustics of the room are not suitable for an electric...
