Incredibly disappointing I wouldnât not recommend this place for anything other than a drink outside in the sun. I am in disbelief that this place gets an average review of 4.5 stars. I can only think itâs seriously gone downhill and that score will soon drop. The service was really inattentive. We had to try so hard to get their attention. We asked for a drink, they took one request and pretty much ran off to get it. We had to call the waitress back to explain the kids wanted drinks too. Some Prosecco spilt we got their attention but even then there was zero urgency on bringing a cloth or anything to stop it dripping all over us! Thereâs too many tofu options for veggies and not enough other choices. The Mexican bean burger on the me u was a âMexican BEEF burgerâ on the blackboard so we didnât know whether it was a veggie option or not. Similarly, the chicken burger on the menus as labelled with a âVâ so is that a chicken style veggie option? Who knows. There was a really loud guy, presumably drunk, at one of the tables. He was ruining it for the families trying to eat with children. Staff would look each time he and an outburst but did absolutely nothing. This was a 70th birthday celebration and was ruined to be honest. Staff seemed hassled to have to deal with us or maybe even too shy for it and it was really hard to get their attention. No one ever came back to ask if we wanted more drinks, anything else, desserts! Even in bad pubs Iâve been to theyâve at least done that. To be fair on the kleftiko and pies at least portion sized was good but the kleftiko was ruined by an overpowering taste of lemon which it would never have in Greece. The pie was ultra heavy and the chips disappointing. We took the risk on the âbean/beefâ burger. It was veggie but disappointing and a small portion of fries. Ciabatta didnât go well with it and it was carb overload given the type of patty and that it had nachos on top! All in all we felt really sad for my Mum whoâs 70th it was and who had been looking forward to it having heard good things. We were also in a dark, gloomy corner. The pub needs some attention but is currently a long way away from being a nice place to eat. The food was not good and the service some of the worst Iâve had in...
Read moreAttended with a friend for lunch on a Wednesday. This was an unplanned drop in and found a ..lovely friendly pub,..4 conjoined rooms, all available to have lunch in ..Cosy and clean with some panelled walls and a up-to-date feel. Very comfortable..lovely bar area. Good light to the front tables. With large windows looking on to the external seating area of the Pub.. Views to the pretty village of Croston. Food ordered which was a wrap with beef..calslaw and salad, great sized portion... I had a Club sandwich..We would have been overfaced had we ordered chips...as stated they were good portion sizes..and very reasonably priced. Very friendly staff..polite and took our order from our table.. The waitress politely mentioned that the table top that we were about to sit in was a little sticky...and was due to be re-varnishhed, the waitress Politely recommended another table.. Very impressed and would highly recommend a visit.. truly a charming venue...thank you for a great lunch with...
Read moreWhat a lovely surprise, the menu is small but wow was the food good. The home made pie was amazing, the fish was firm with light crispy batter and massive. My son had the childrenâs sausage and mash, eat it all and was a great portion size for a childâs meal . The burger was served on a fresh ciabatta roll with a good size salad and plenty fries . The staff were very friendly and welcoming despite us coming late when there were not many customers. My only critique is the burger patty was very thin and looked shop bought which was a different league to the meals but it was enjoyed all the same. Our trip to the Grapes after a huge hype/disappoint had put us off eating out again but this was a happy reassurance that Croston still has great pub food. Weâll done and thank you. Canât wait...
