Having lived within 4 miles of Verdes since it opened, I’d never actually been. So as we were nearby on Saturday, we decided to call in for lunch.
I’d booked ahead, and as soon as we arrived we were welcomed and shown straight to a lovely table overlooking the pond. We were offered two menus — the à la carte and a two-course set lunch. We chose the set menu.
Starters were pate for Mrs A, which came with a generous slab of bread and a big hit of garlic butter, and calamari for me. We also shared a 50:50 garlic bread (half Mexican, half cheese) which was fabulous.
For mains I went with the tagliatelle nettuno, recommended by the manager. It’s not something I’d usually order, but it was outstanding — perfectly cooked pasta with plenty of huge, juicy prawns. Mrs A had the aubergine parmigiana, which was full of flavour and beautifully seasoned.
We were too full for dessert, but rounded things off with a strong, rich espresso before heading off.
What really stood out, though, was the service. From the polite, no-nonsense phone call to book, to the warm welcome on arrival, and the attentive but never intrusive service throughout, it was faultless. Even when a large group of 30+ and another table of 8 arrived, the staff didn’t miss a beat and we never felt overlooked.
Overall, we were really impressed. Great food, excellent service, and a relaxed setting — we’ll definitely...
Read moreLet's get the bad out of the way. The staff are not attentive enough and had to get their attention nearly everytime. That being said, they were friendly enough and brought the food out in good time (not to quickly to feel rushed but not too long where you feel like you've been forgotten about.
Now the good.. Honestly, everything else! We walked in without a booking, got served a drink while waiting, didn't have to wait too long though and was promptly seated. The decor of the place had me feeling like I was sitting in a restaurant from the 80s/90s or like something out of the Sopranos with a modern twist, it didn't feel dated or tacky (hard to explain really, you would have to go and judge for yourselves). It certainly wasn't or feel like a traditional italian restaurant. The food was very tasty (I had the chicken and shared pizza)' piping hot aswell, tasted fresh, really could not find a negative and they boxed up the left overs. All in all great place to eat with a great atmosphere, not overly expensive and left feeling full and satisfied. Will...
Read moreThe worst take away pizza ever!!!
Ordered pizza and fries over the phone, arrived at the stated time fries already cooked pizza not even prepped told 2 more pizzas to be cooked before ours. Chef then cooked 1 pizza at a time despite having a 3 layered pizza oven each layer could fit 3 pizzas in and he opened the door to check the pizzas every 20 seconds surely letting all the heat out of the oven!!
When we eventually got our cold fries and pizza it was so under cooked it was like a raw dough ball with far too much cheese on top truly the worst take away pizza ever we threw most of it away as it was an inedible mess of dough and cheese with almost half an onion and salami scattered across 1 side only barely nothing on the other side. I have indigestion just thinking about it.
Very disappointed we won’t be returning again, I remember when Verdes was a great restaurant it is now far from that status if they can’t even get a simple Pizza and fries...
