Buffalo Joe’s — Restaurant in Colchester

I'm from London and have a friend who studies here, so obviously this review will be somewhat skewed by my local standards, but I hope it's a good review!

First off, the most important thing: the food. In a word, great. In a few, good value and pretty tasty given it's student food! On my most recent visit I had the Porky Blinders burger, a burger with toppings including pulled pork. This was tasty and filling, and for a full meal deal with chips and a canned drink I believe it cost me £6.50. This is tastier than a McDonald's big Mac meal, and that price is definitely justified.

One criticism based on a previous visit: the 'homemade' cheesecake. That was definitely manufactured, and I stopped eating after a couple of bites as the base was essentially just dust. If the recipe has changed since the start of the 2021-22 academic year the restaurant is welcome to say so, and maybe on my next visit I will give it another go.

Last two times we have been the staff haven't been nice at all. We went for waffles they said they were out of the ice cream and toppings so we ordered other things. Five minutes later they were serving waffles again with the toppings we asked for. I went up and asked if they restocked and they said yes in a grumpy manner. They didn't even tell us at the till before. We went to go again and the staff were even worse. Their card machine didn't seem to be working and the lady didn't even want to try and find a solution, I said I'll get cash out litrally at the santander across the road and she didn't seem happy about that either. I wouldnt usually write reviews, but I’ve come here quite a bit since the start of the “dish of the day” special. This £2 special is advertised by the university as being amazing value for money to help students with costs of living. Initially this was the case you could find roast dinners and full meals for £2 nowadays you’ll be lucky to not get a small apple burger on its own (which is the option basically everyday), and the one of the few days it wasn’t this option, I got a lazy wrap with 2 tiny chicken strips in probably 2 inches each and so the majority of the wrap was just the tortilla. Furthermore I’ve never been to a restaurant where I’ve been consistently expected to clean...
