Went for a brunch with my friends for her birthday. The restaurant was nice good music was playing. But disappointed as it was a “bottomless brunch” and we got our first drink 20 minutes into being there. The drinks were awfully strong could not enjoy them. We then ordered food and another round of drinks the next lot of drinks were also way too strong. I told the lady our waitress Sophie that it was too strong she said there was nothing she could do about it so I asked the nice girl who was bringing the drinks over to get me a new drink as it was impossible to drink. Food then came over wasn’t nice at all didn’t eat much of it. Overall we had 4 cocktails each in our bottomless brunch. Not happy at all. I then asked for the bill they added a £17 service charge I got that taken off as service was shocking and it wasn’t busy at all in there. Overall I complained about the food and drinks at the end to our server and said there was nothing she could do about it I asked to speak to the manager or a supervisor she told us they had gone home there was no one to speak to. I was not paying full price she then did a 10% off the bill as that’s all she could do apparently. Not happy won’t be returning again. All night I felt very sick and...
Read moreHave to say, I'm quite disappointed with Cuckoo Dough. Been looking forward to trying this place for a long time as walking past it and peeking through the window it looks lovely inside. Decor, atmosphere and service all great. Unfortunately the food just didn't live up to expectations.
We had olives and deep fried brie to start which delicious, especially the cherries that came with it! The olives were all black - would have preferred mixed but they were nice nonetheless. We ordered house wine which was a nice malbec and at a decent price (especially at happy hour!) and alcohol free beer, which I'm glad to say was one of the best I'd tried, reminded me of Adnams dry hopped lager, much better than the usual Heineken or Beck's blue that is normally offered.
The pizzas were not great at all, they had very soggy bases, the tomato sauce base was bland, seemed to be no seasoning or herbs apart from a few whole basil leaves on top. The cheese was laid on very thick and did not taste great. My partner then had an upset stomach all the next day.
The price was pretty reasonable, so if you don't mind a soggy base and a bland pizza then give it a go, but personally I don't think I will be returning for food...
Read moreLovely gem of a find. |We were looking for somewhere to stay for a mini break and came across Cuckoo Rooms Guesthouse. Only 4min walk to the train station and so close to the high street shops and buses.|Sweet considerate gift basket left for us in the room. The room exceptionally clean, an amazingly comfortable bed with spare clean linen, enough tea and coffee. The lady who cleans is so helpful and friendly, felt like a treat seeing her each day as her kindness and smile was infectious.|We had breakfast in the Cuckoo Rooms restaurant; just below the guesthouse so no need to travel far (they also serve evening meals and have a bar). Fresh products, well cooked and served with A1 customer service.|Considering the Guesthouse was on the same lane with all the quaint shops, we were not disturbed by noise. Our room looked out onto the restaurants terrace; I guess we were lucky going when we did as I can imagine the terrace being used by guest's during the light summer nights.||Would we stay again....100% YES.||Thank you Cuckoo Rooms for a...
