Visited seafood at dawn for the first time today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The premises is located near the sea front and the interior is nicely decorated, warm and comfortable. The staff were very pleasant and friendly and service was prompt. We had a selection of 5 tapas which was around £22 and we also had the loaded seafood chips which were excellent at around £7.50 and a crab salad around £11. Prices on the menu are very reasonable in comparison with other establishments in the area. My only criticism is in relation to the calamari tapas. You only get 3 small pieces of calamari which was disappointing and I would have liked to see bigger pieces as the ones we got were lost in the bowel. Also the crab salad lacked imagination in terms of the salad quantity. The salad only consisted of a couple of lettuce leaves and maybe 2 cherry tomatoes and for the money I felt it should have had a better salad with the crab (see picture). Apart from that we will definitely return to try...

We experienced dreadful customer service at this restaurant today. I had taken my elderly mother over to the island for a visit. Whilst I accept we had not booked we requested if a table was possible at the door. The waitress went inside to check and came out and confirmed a table was available and asked did we want to sit inside or out. There was only one table empty outside so she went in again to confirm it had no reservation booked. Upon returning she stated she could no longer offer us a table as her colleague had told her to refuse us a table as they had a number or tables awaiting there orders. Whilst I would have accepted them seating us and explaining there maybe a wait for the food to arrive the way they handled the situation was dreadful. This place really needs to improve it's customer service, there staff really need to talk to each other. Not sure where the management were but they were...

Late lunch

Disappointing return after a few years, old review deleted as it doesn’t represent recent massive disappointment. Decided to return after a few years. Last time it was a 5* visit with superb food. This time, the starter of scallops with chorizo with salad was nice. Main was a sea bass with roasted veg and baby potatoes. The fish was pleasant enough. The roasted veg seemed devoid of seasoning. The Courgette was very limp but an indistinguishable root vegetable was still crunchy. The potatoes were cut in half unseasoned and could have done with something like butter instead they were just dry. For dessert I had a lemon posset, a lifelong favourite of mine, accompanied by two shortbread biscuits. The biscuits were fine, but the posset was split and grainy with a clear liquid separate at the base. Really not nice, staff didn't pick up I...

An unpretentious cracking little restaurant that will just blow you away with the quality of its food. We started with scallops & chorizo and grilled oysters. Both dishes were served with lovely side salads packed with crunchy greens and sweet baby tomatoes in a honey & mustard dressing. It was my first taste of grilled oysters and what an introduction. Cooked to perfection with cheese and cream. The scallops were nicely seared with a spicy kick of chorizo. For mains I had homemade fish pie which was packed with sweet prawns and chunky white fish. The fish and prawns were again cooked to perfection with great texture. The good lady had the fish platter, an amazing array of seafood that filled the plate and our bellies. We both chose Mersea Island beers to accompany the meal. Well worth the trip to East Mersea
