The Rovers Tye — Restaurant in Colchester

DO NOT VISIT THIS PUB ⚠️ The most rude appalling staff I have ever come across. My family and I have visited this pub many times and have never have service this appalling. We had ordered two cocktails on a Saturday night (when two for one cocktails are on) and paid full price for the cocktails without any mention of the offer on that night. With the football, on the pub was fairly busy meaning we could not see the signs at the bar detailing this offer. On our third round we asked if we could collect the free cocktail we were entitled to based on the buy one get one free deal and we were met with a rude belittling response from one of the bar staff named **Andy, who spoke down to us told us how it was our fault for not specifying that we wanted the deal earlier. After this we spoke to the manager, a blonde lady in a striped shirt, who was also incredibly rude and asked us if we could not read the signs which is incredibly offensive to family with a history of dyslexia. She made us out to be stupid claiming how the offer is shown all around the pub despite us only seeing one sign which was knee level at the bar. This rude manager was happy to miss out on any food or drink orders from a family trying to enjoy their night, instead of treating us with respect and serving us the drinks we had already payed for. Will NOT be revisiting any time soon.

In response to your reply, I apologise for getting the names of your staff wrong.

Aside from this, there is no so called “fiction” within my review, several comments had been made on wether we could read your apparently clear signs (which were barely visible) and no “hurtful comments” were made to your staff as we simply questioned the reasoning behind your policies. As well as this, we had seen the receipts and had not received the offer, hence why we had come to the bar to ask about it.

It is fairly obvious that the only fiction lies within your response.

This not the first review that has commented on the poor management of this pub and even in your response you are visibly condescending. It is only fair to warn other customers of the poor customer service shown...

Racist staff member. We are a mixed race family that just moved from London to Colchester.

We fell in love with the Rovers tye the first time we set foot in it.

We’ve been a few times, but the level of racism I experienced with a staff member there last night was horrible. I simply asked for a table and she stared at me with disdain. She spoke harshly to me and shouted at me.

Usually all the other staff are nice but this particular one was very mean to us and was very unwelcoming.

Beautiful place great food but this particular lady was very mean I had to leave for my mental health.

It’s 2023 I can’t believe this is still happening.

I saw how she spoke the the White people she didn’t shout at them or scowl her face.

I told her she was beautiful and left I smiled and stayed positive through out her verbal abuse.

The fact that these establishment tried to invalidate my experience and dismiss speaks about them and what they stand for. I didn’t say anything negative about the place itself but I stand on my experience the woman is racist and if you don’t speak up about racial abuse you’re condoning it.There are other people who work there I didn’t complain about them. Well they my review won’t affect your business by any chance because people of color aren’t your target audience hence why you’re not sorry or trying to be infact your proud of it. Who employs a racist staff member ? Don’t go to places that make you feel you shouldn’t be there. I see how you all are happy and supportive of racism.

And to the person who commented my experience was hoax how did you reach that conclusion?

Did you watch a cctv footage of the service she rendered me? Did you reach out to me to find out ? If you have a cctv watch what transpired between us and if you haven’t done that you have no right whatsoever to cal my experience hoax. I complained about a staff member not the pub itself now guess what the staff member did? She harassed my family the last time we went in there thankfully we have proof...

We had a bad experience here before with food but thought we'd try again give them a 2nd chance as it may have been an off day last time....No it was just as bad if not worse if I could give it no stars I would. Three burgers that were all as dry as sticks no sauce with them even though it states in the menu that they come with it, the chips plus onion rings were under cooked...how on earth can you get that wrong. My partner burger came without a bun top and one of the burgers looked like it had been bitten into before he got it as a bite mark bit was missing. There was no cutlery to eat, no sauces to use and we had to wait to get salt and pepper, plus there was glasses left everywhere even when a waitress was constantly in and outside so could of collected them. There was another family complaining about their food also but were told as they'd eaten some they couldnt be refunded, how do you know what it tastes like unless you eat some?? Another lady left all her steak on her mixed grill as it was that well done she couldnt even chew it and that was just what we saw on the few tables next to us. We were only in here an hour and half. The place itself is a nice pub nice for going for a social drink but the food there is diabolical the chef needs sacking as he clearly hates his job as no passion is put into making the food that is served to customers. The food about 3 years ago was lovely in here I dont understand why it's gone so down hill. Wont be eating here again.
