We planned a work meal planned at this restaurant after a friend recommended it. Unfortunately it was a very bad experience. To begin with the car park is beyond belief busy, people parking their cars on kerbs and anywhere they'll fit - this is due to the hotel, huge vans taking up two bays and very poor restrictions. It seems the hotel guests take priority.
When we got seated it took a fair amount of time for our drinks order to be taken, but they were busy and it wasn't too long. We had two pints of diet coke delivered which were very flat - again, having worked in the industry, I know these things can happen so it wasn't an issue and they were replaced without grumble.
We finally had our order taken - we were a table of five and ordered poppadoms, starters and mains. The poppadom bowl came out quite quickly - immediately we were pretty shocked at what we got for our money, the quantity wasn't really comparable to a proper curry house for the amount of money it cost.
More time passed and the starters came out - these were very disappointing. The 'chilly chicken' was essentially sweet and sour chicken on a side plate - it had very sweet notes and incredibly sour notes, not entirely pleasant and too rich to be served on its own.
The 'Spiced Homemade Chicken Goujons' were mostly pink but oddly enough tough at the same time, were they reheated?
The 'Chowpatty Bhel Puri' was just horrible, it tasted of staleness and was barely touched.
The 'Amritsari Fish Pakoras' had an interesting combination of spices which was very unpleasant and the fish was dry.
Full plates went back to the kitchen but the staff didn't ask if anything was wrong! Again, I went against the group and sided with the restaurant giving them the benefit of the doubt but still shocked at exactly what we were getting for our money - a glass bottle of cola is £4, for example?!
The straw that broke the camels back was the wait time for our mains - an hour and a half after ordering we still hadn't received our meals, no one came round to our table to apologise, offer some drinks or even something on the house as way of a gesture of goodwill. Eventually, after seeing we were getting restless, a waitress came round and told us we were the next table, followed immediately afterwards by the General Manager/owner who told us we were now up!
It was at this point I realised that tables who had been seated long after us were already at the end of their main courses, but since the food was imminent I let it go.
20 minutes later, we had had enough and I told them that we were leaving. Admittedly at this point the General Manager seemed very apologetic and offered to give us 50% off. We refused and he still offered for us to take the food away with us, even for free. I regret that the restaurant lost money and don't hold this against him as I could see most of the staff were working hard - but with the prices of some of the dishes, one would expect the level of service to be a lot higher.
As I said, I've worked in the industry before and know first hand how things can get out of control and always try my best to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt but the fact that no one even came round to touch our table or offer us anything was really bad service. We were a big table spending lots of money and they just seemed not to care!
If the General Manager reads this - I appreciate your gesture at the end and saw that you were working hard, but I hope you understand 10pm was too late to start our main courses after waiting so long and seeing other tables served first, but I do appreciate...
Read moreWe came with family for birthday celebrations and i was really looking forward to a lovely meal, the menu looked great and the pub looks pretty.
We were greeted but i wasnt offered a separate allergens menu so was unsure what i could have being gluten free. I asked one one the waiters ,who i believe was also a manager what i would be able to have . He said all currys are gluten free. Which is great but i would have liked something from the vast array of english meals. As he didnt seem to know about individual dishes and had to ask the chef about the onion Bhai's i felt the curry would be the safest opinion for me. The curry was lovely and the portions huge! Our drinks came on time and the food was great . Deserts were a different story I asked the waitress of i could have the lemon meringue sundae . The menu stated it had cracker pieces sprinkled on the top so i asked if they could not do that for me then it would be gluten free. The waitress seemed confused but the desert came out without crackers but after delving into the bowl there was loads of broken peices of digestive biscuit!! Unfortunately the lemon bit of the desert was in the digestives and i couldnt touch it. The ice cream was cheap (probably the tesco value stuff) loads of it though . They did have other gluten free options but only a couple of the dishes were maked gluten free, im assuming this is because they werent sure what gluten free actually meant. Some staff training on allergens would be beneficial. If you're coeliac...
Read morecame here with my family, staying in the premier inn beside, we were under the impression they wanted you to order via the qr code/website placed on your tables. we ordered drinks and food through this website. we had been sat for half an hour without anything having been served before we went to the bar inside to ask where our drinks were. they informed us that the drinks aren’t sent to their till point and the food was now on its way. it took another 20 minutes for the food, likely because they’d only started the order once we’d gone to the bar. only four plates were served at first, mine taking much longer despite my brother having ordered the exact same thing. most of my family had finished by the time my food came out. now the food was nice, but if it takes almost an hour to cook and serve a burger, i’m afraid it doesn’t make up for incompetence.
if you’re coming here, don’t make our mistake and order through the website, because obviously it doesn’t work properly, otherwise we would’ve been served our food in a shorter time like everyone else.
the only kind of ‘sorry’ we received was from the final waiter who brought my food, and the extreme portion of extra fries on my plate- a few extra chips isn’t how you should apologise for a stupidly long wait time.
i’m not one to complain, but it is really quite ridiculous to not receive any proper apology from management. leaving the wait staff to take the complaints is just immature, unprofessional, and poor management on...
