We walked in asked if our friend was there yet, as reservations were under his name. I kid you not. The hostess said, go look around and if you see him, hes here. Hes not there yet, we sit outside to relax and wait. Friend shows up and we go to hostess they sit us.doesnt tell us how the buffet works or if we want another drink, she just walks off. We wait a few minutes they get up and ask, she points into the restaurant and said its over there. Ok, we find the buffet, there is no carver, but a young woman changing dishes out. We asked about the carver, her response was, oh he will be out. We wait, now we are giggling about the lack of service and care. Less then 10 min and the carver shows up. Oh, seems that you can get a few different meats your first round, after that you go back as often as you like. Oddly, no one on staff told us this. So, we get our food and go to eat. We chat, eat and laugh, we are celebrating the first anniversary of 2 of our friends. No staff come over to see to our drinks or if we want a pudding. Now, we did notice the staff checked on the 3 other tables around us. Getting their puddings, drinks and taking payment. We laugh that we are invisible. We ask about our pudding and are told the kitchen was closed. We take it in stride and deside we will finish at the hotel. We watch as they finish with the tables around us, but dont come to get our payment. We laugh about how they have had no care about our table. One of our party goes to ask about payment and to speak with manager. Funny that, no managment to be found and they dont have a head office. No one to discuss how the staff ignores us for about 3 hours. But now the hostess states, well if its about the pudding, I can go get you something...nope, to late its now 10 pm and we are going to end the night at the hotel. Now, I can almost see ignoring us if they were busy, they were not, we were the last folks in there. We watched how by 9 pm almost everyone but 1 other table was empty. We managed to settle the bill by almost 10pm.

Read moreDisappointing Experience for Regular Patrons Our recent experience at Toby Carvery Crawley left us highly disappointed, especially as regular patrons who expected a warm, respectful environment. Sadly, we encountered issues that made us reconsider our loyalty to this location.
Firstly, the food was mediocre—certainly not up to the standard one hopes for. While the service staff were fine, the manager’s attitude was shockingly poor. His rudeness and arrogance were off-putting and made the experience uncomfortable. We expected a manager to be courteous, if not welcoming, but were instead met with indifference and dismissiveness.
A major frustration was the loyalty voucher system. Toby Carvery encourages guests to use the app, yet it is filled with restrictive terms and exceptions that seem designed to limit the usefulness of any vouchers. We raised our concerns with the manager, who showed little interest in helping, leaving us feeling disregarded. If they are going to offer loyalty rewards, they should at least make them accessible without so many caveats.
We also tried to reach out to customer service by phone to discuss our concerns, but they were equally unhelpful and seemed uninterested in listening. As regular customers, we expected a basic level of respect, but instead, we left feeling disheartened.

Read moreThis was the second time we tried out Toby Carvery both times were at the same branch in Crawley. The first time we went as a party of 6 and were seated in the main part of the restaurant. I was impressed by how spacious the place felt. The atmosphere was also good, it felt very much like dining in a barn feeling. On that particular visit , the food was mediocre at best but we decided to give it another go as there had been an offer on. On our most recent visit which was on a Tuesday as a party of 4. we were seated not in the main area . Straight away the atmosphere felt different. The food itself was worse than ever. The meat portions were tiny compared to the pictures I see on reviews of other restaurant locations. Help yourself vegetables . . . Everything tasted bland and mushy. I thought of hospital food right away. Why is there a need to over cook the vegetables? They tasted the same both times the same tasteless but mushier! My only items acceptable were the roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding! What amazed me was that they were busy. There were customers coming in constantly which I do not know why! Customer service was good. Our server was pleasant , no complaints about that. Summary- stingy meat portions Tasteless and mushy vegetables It was disappointing visit.
