We came to the R&C after a long and chilly walk so was looking forward to a nice big roast dinner but sadly this wasn't to be. First of all the staff were all very nice and they were very apologetic that a few items were unavailable which we understood as it was quite late in the day for a roast lunch, but when the food arrived It was so disappointing. Sparse and lukewarm- a quarter of a carrot, half a parsnip, a teaspoon of cabbage and 2 small potatoes made up the veg. The veggie roast itself was nice enough, but there just wasn't enough food. I wouldn't mind, but for nearly £18 I would have expected more. It did also come without a Yorkshire, when I asked for it the waiter was more than happy to get me one but said it doesn't come with one as standard, which I pointed out isn't what it says on the menu. Was also supposed to be 'bottomless' gravy but when my husband asked for some more the waiter forgot (thats ok we're only human) but there werent many staff around so he just finished his already cold food as we didn't know how long it would be before we could grab someone's attention again. He said the chicken was very nice and he seemed to have more chicken than I had veggie roast but we both left hungry. Such a shame as I remember this pub being nice years ago when I lived near the area but it's changed to another chain pub that presumably has the food prepared offsite and reheated on site because it definitely didn't taste freshly made, it was more on par with wetherspoons but with a 1000% markup. Its rare we would treat ourselves to a roast dinner out and it was a lot of money to spend to come home and be hungry still.
If the staff weren't so nice and hard working I might have had a moan but it's not their fault and so I'm hoping someone else in a position to make a change might see...
Read moreI split my review into separate areas so I can give fair account of our experience. To start with I called to enquire if the kitchen is open and if they are busy or we can just come in (Valentines day 4pm). Nice gentleman advised we can come and sit with our dog in bar area. When we arrived we saw the offer for Valentines day of set menu. So we wanted to enquire. The staff looked absolutely disinterested in us. So we stood twice in the queue without clear answer. Second time I returned to check if the table was free in the restaurant (if I put my dog in the car as there dogs are not allowed) I was ignored, and they made it look like they forgot what I was enquiring. When I asked if we can change the table I heard that they are fully booked. I looked and there was only one table taken. So I said, really... it looks empty to me. I said is this such a big problem, and at this point the lady realised what's going on and surprised she said, oh now. And eventually we moved - on our own, noone helped us with baby chair or guided us to the table. The wait for the food was horrendous. So as we entered 3:50pm, we left at 6pm. We really hoped for the quick late lunch with the baby. Oh well. The food was good, fancy, but also expensive, and I'm not sure if the price was justified for the quality and portions. Positives: the decor is very beautiful shout out to Stephen who was the only staff member who made our experience better - he was just polite, smiley person, not like the other two people from the previous shift. The people who came for 5pm shift looked also nice. big parking dog friendly area some sitting outside baby menu and changing...
