staying in chesham for a few days and fancied a chinese so we looked up a few and found the wami michi noodle bar in berkhamsted. couldn’t have chosen a better option! there was around a 50 minute wait for the food which was to be expected considering the distance. the communication was great from both the staff in the restaurant and the delivery driver, who took mention of all our added notes. the food was piping hot and absolutely delicious. after trying it here for the first time, the kabocha korokke (fried pumpkin) is a form new favourite of ours. the sesame chicken wings were covered in honey it seemed, and some of the best we’ve ever had! the vegetable laska soup noodles were incredible, broth was perfectly spiced and kept well insulated. everything was thoroughly enjoyed, now we’re wishing we had a place like this back home! don’t listen to any dubious reviews, the place has come under new management and is now clearly a 10/10. thanks so much guys, would highly recommend to all :)

After reading the reviews I thought I’d give this a try as I’m always reluctant to try new places. First off - ordering is simple and there is plenty of choice, food was prepared at good time and staff were friendly at collection. Unfortunately for the food. It was neither mind blowing nor awful. I had the laska soup - the broth was absolutely brilliant: velvety and sweet with a nice spice ! Noodles needed a little salt through cooking though. Out of the meats; beef felt like it was steamed, chicken steamed or frozen and slimed, pork very dry. The prawns were the best out of that. Overall it was okay. Chicken udon again similar to above, chicken slimey and felt like it was boiled or steamed from frozen, flavour okay ish nothing special. I have to say though that my Kung Pao prawns delivered. I quite enjoyed those. Also the chicken wonton? They were odd but tasted great. I wouldn’t say this place is necessarily bad, but fresh meat would be a bonus.

Wamamichi offers a delightful dining experience with a unique blend of flavors and vibrant presentation. The menu features a variety of dishes, each showcasing fresh ingredients and thoughtful preparation. The standout item was the Laksa, Singaporean Noodles, Curry, and to be honest, all the food they offer are amazing, perfectly seasoned. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a great spot for both casual lunch and dinner meals and special occasions. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, ready to recommend pairings that enhance the overall experience. The prices are very competitive and the quality of the food justifies it. Overall, Wamamichi is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in flavorful cuisine with a creative twist.

Having been out for the evening we decided to order a takaway. This was at 7.30pm. We picked this place because I had an unavoidable desire to cram my face with some tasty dim sum. I ordered online, salivating, mainly at the thought of those scrumptious pork dumplings but also the soup. So I'm sat there thinking that soon all these tasty delights will full my grumbling tum. Clock watching, egarly waiting for time to pass. Delivery time came and went (1hr & 30min) and yet my door was still there just awaiting the knock of a delivery driver. So I wait untill impatience gets the better of me and I ring to be told the driver is on his way and will be 20min. I say okay hopefully, that my long wait will be over soon. I sit back down and try to think of other things untill 40min after the first phone call. I ring again!. My food is delivered ? My food is still on the way ? .... well I can tell you for certain that my food is most definitely not in my belly ! We have now been waiting 2 and a half hrs since ordering for our meal. We've settled the baby, we've done our nightly chores and we're just about ready to go to bed and we get a long awaited knock on the door. ITS JUST THE MAN WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR. Our delivery driver. Seemed like a very nice man. Polite and apologetic. We finally sit down to eat. FOOD IS COLD 🥶 dumplings are tasteless. My soup is some sort of spicy water with uncooked vegetables chucked in. They would of been rock hard had it not taken them 40min to get here when we're only 15min away. So AVOID this place, especially if you think it will be a quick little treat or you want to eat anything with some flavor. We where offered a discount of 10% off a £50 order but it was nowhere near enough to salvage the sorry plate of food...

Dissapointed & Frustrated. I’m a loyal customer in both the Luton & Berkhamsted branches of Wami-michi.

I used to bring friends & family to order from this restaurant because I trusted the quality was always high and food always tasty.

I always order Laksa Beef Soup for me.

Also I always take-out because I have a baby, usually I need to wait hours before I have chance to eat it. Yes its ice cold but still so delicious, and i was never disappointed.

This time we came ten mins late to pick up the order because of the baby, they were nice and called me when we were arriving just outside trying to find some parking.

The beef, noodles and veggies were fresh like always, I’m so excited to eat it but then when I open the broth the smell was bad, it was not fresh and seemed days old. I tasted it and it was indeed spoiled and tangy. I was expecting the normal umami/ fresh taste.

I had good intentions to call them rather than write it here and tell them that the laksa broth is spoiled.

As a good customer I expect them to just say thank you and maybe say they will improve it next time. But instead they insisted that the restaurant always cook the same (which they certainly did not this time), and then blamed me for how late I picked the order up.

I understand it's changed hands and is under new ownership, perhaps they have a new chef now…

I had to throw everything in the bin as I didnt want to fall unwell etc… wasted my money!

So yeah, I will never go back to the Berko branch.

Sad as it was my go-to take away shop in...

I’d previously got take out from here a couple of years ago when it was under different owners and it was ok but not great, and I was then put off by their hygiene scores so didn’t come again.

When I found out the new owners had completely turned the place around in terms of both hygiene (checking scores on the doors) and food, and having read the recent reviews, I had to give it a go.

So visited for the first time today for lunch and it was very good indeed.

Owner was lovely and talked about how he’d taken it over from the original owner who had a chain of three (London, Luton and Berko) but had neglected this one so it went downhill and was looking to sell.

What a turnaround!..

Just came alone and dined in, trying just a few dishes to test it out without the risk of disappointment you’d get if you’d placed a big order on a Friday night and it wasn’t nice.

I had Prawn dim sum, Kung Po prawns and egg friend rice. All were delicious. Also tried some curry sauce as I like Chinese curry but didn’t want to risk forking out for a full curry dish. Was also really good.

As a lover of Chinese food I am super pleased that we now have a good place in town that is open for lunch. Especially as it is close to where I live (although dangerously so, now I know how...
