We were told we could sit in the nicer room at the back by the barmaid but then were told by the waitress that she just booked in someone via the phone and we were put in a boring room with little windows on our own. 5 mins later we were told a table in our preferred room might be available a few minutes later. Surely she realised this when we were trying to get a table in there. She was then eager to take the order at the table and as we weren't ready I think it was unprofessional for her to say come and order at the bar when you are ready. The steak and ale pie was beautiful but had a bone in it larger than a sewing needle. I'm sure she would have noticed it when she collected the plates but made no comment or apology. The chips advertised as cooked in beef dripping seemed to be frozen chips that had then been fried in dripping and so only tasted a little of the dripping. We were in the room on our own for over thirty minutes before someone else was seated in the room. More effort needs to be made to distribute guests more evenly to create a better atmosphere for all. My experience was spoiled further when the waitress told a guest "be careful its very hot...unless you've got an asbestos mouth" Asbestos is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people every year and therefore the cause of mental health problems for thousands more people, like myself. I asked for a regular pepsi with no ice with my dessert. The Pepsi didn't arrive before my pudding so again I asked for a regular Pepsi with no ice. A minute later I was served a pint of Pepsi with ice. Upon receipt of the bill I'd been charged for a pint. This was corrected on the bill when I mentioned in. The beer, barmaid and the taste of the pie were good. If I go again it'll be for nothing more...

A lovely welcoming atmosphere in this pub. We had rung up to book a table, in order to have a late Sunday roast lunch. We were informed that there was currently a lack of roast potatoes. Which is fine. When we arrived, they let us know that we could have a roast lunch quickly, but that they had put some more roast potatoes in and they would take about 40 minutes to be ready. At this point, all three of us, who were pretty ravenous decided that the regular menu would be a good option. Two steak pie, chips, peas and gravy were ordered, and one calves liver, bacon, mash and peas with gravy. The food arrived quickly, and was both hot and fresh. The pies, are homemade, and generous. Nice thin crisp pastry, and filled to the brim with tender meat. The chips were tasty, and the peace just right. The liver was delicious. Nice and pink, so not overcooked. The mash appeared homemade, and the gravy tasted like it had redcurrant jelly in it. So very nice indeed. Great to see liver on the menu. πŸ‘πŸ» The landlady brought over our cutlery and napkins etc, prior to the food arriving. A lovely welcoming and friendly person. Infact all the staff were. So big thumbs up there. The loos were clean, and well maintained. As is the rest of the pub. Plenty of space inside to find a nice quiet corner to sit, or near the bar, so as to not miss any of the action. They are dog friendly, and don't mind people coming in in muddy boots. A homely and welcoming place. Plenty of veams and wood panels everywhere for those who like their pubs with a bit of history. A Proper country pub. All in all, would definitely recommend. Well priced for the quality of the food and the...

Possibly the worst pub meal I have experienced in the last 20 years. I had the pie and chips my friend the gammon. I assure you that my meal bore no resemblance to the photograph. The pie had been left under a heating lamp and the crust had turned hard ( 35 minutes service the place was empty ) 14 yes 14 home cut soggy tasteless chips the thickness of French frites. The gravy was from my school meals in the 1960s β€˜evil’ How on earth this place stays opens serving this type of food at Β£18 a plate. I complained and told them not to do anything I simply will not eat there again. Other than for Amazon I don’t write reviews but I can’t get the experience yesterday out of mind. My friends Gammon ? The meat was succulent and was 3/5. He enjoyed. Simply leave the pie alone.

I read Rick's response on the 17th July, at least my comments were factual, unlike his. I'm not responding directly to any of them which are mostly fictitious which didn't help his corner in any way. For anyone reading this saga, spend a few bob on some extra petrol and have a run out to Monyash or Foolow and see what you can have for a similar amount of your hard...

A stonking 5/5 for this pub. I'm going to give this pub 5 stars not just because the food was tasty and the staff were friendly (which they were) but because the staff were really kind to us and that is something to shout about! Our car had broken down and we managed to nurse it to the car park. It was due to be picked up by a recovery vehicle by 8pm that day but they let us down. The pub and Steff (who works there), looked after the keys, took our details, contacted us when the recovery people didn't turn up and just treated us as you would want to be treated if something like it happened to you. My wife would like me to make a special mention for the "Beer battered salt and pepper chicken with fresh chilli, garlic, peppers and summer salad" which she had as a starter. I was seriously jealous as it was truly delicious - a real balanced dish. She had the scampi which was also excellent and I couldn't say no to a beef roast dinner which was superb! So, what a great pub to visit for many reasons and even more if you are unlucky to breakdown nearby!

Small Locall pub for the far outskirts of the village 'tideswell'. β›° Hospitality: 4.5/5 service staff were on point with tending to our needs. πŸ‘Œ (Opinion): Waiting times for meals slightly dragged on; but maybe they just have a small kitchen though. Food: 4/5 food was good quality with a decent selection. I had a chicken kf - first time having one out so I realised I like store brand more πŸ˜… Also I had cheesy garlic bread - taste was good a the size was serious value for money! Others had a chicken burger which were okay. Although I was hard to hold as one. For desert I had a vegan cheescake (can't remember name). Which was excellent for a vegan desert! πŸ‘πŸŽ‚ Building: 4.5/5 The inner out outside layout was very suiting to the countryside its based in. Unsure whether ther's enough room to cather everyone on busy days. Also for total seats inside - the carrack could do with a extension
