Food was average at best. The roast-Beef was grey & dry (not enough gravy to fix it) & the roast potatoes were burnt, veg & yorkie were the best bits. Once I cut off the outside of the potatoes they were ok⊠Burger was ok. Meat in a bun, again dry. Chips were your bog standard frozen type, tasted like the oil needed changing. Beef & Stilton Pie on the other hand was exceptional. I say this as someone who has worked in any pubs/ restaurants.
Service-The gentleman that seated us was lovely, as was the young lady that took our drinks order. Upon being asked for our food order we explained we hadnât been given a menu, the lady very apologetically explained the menu was on the wall behind us (we hadnât noticed due to our position). 1 minute later the landlady ,Maj?, came to take our order, we asked for a couple more minutes to be abruptly told âwell you better hurry as there are other customers & youâll be joining the back of the queue with a long wait if you donâtââŠ. She returned a few minutes later with âKnow what you want yet?!â So incredibly rude. There are more diplomatic & polite ways to ask a customer not take too longâŠ
Atmosphere-The band were great & the atmosphere was fun & everyone outside seemed to be having a great time. Unfortunately our mood was soured by the landlady so didnât want to spend anymore money in her establishment.
We apologise to the other lovely staff members for not leaving a tip as we would usually be generous but unfortunately, given the awful attitude of their boss & the substandard food, we just...
Read moreHaving visited the Star Inn Tideswell once before we couldnât wait to return.. Unfortunately our experience was not as positive this time. On arrival we were told there had been an error in that our booking made 1week earlier had not been written in the book. However the owner apologised and said they would find us a table. No issues as a solution was found! We enjoyed a lovely meal-excellent food and our waitress was great. Unfortunately about 5 minutes after finishing our main course another member of staff came to us and advised they needed the table (4 other bookings that night he also not been written in the book) and therefore could we please move to stand at the bar.. I explained we hadnât finished as we were waiting for the dessert menu however we were told there would be seats saved for us at the bar. When I asked if we would be able to finish our meal at the bar we were told this couldnât usually happen but on this occasion it would be ok. Unfortunately our âseatsâ were bar stools squeezed into a tiny corner with people shoulder to shoulder and cramped into all and any available space . There was no way we could have enjoyed desserts there. We ended up staying for a couple of drinks as it was our last night away but felt very disappointed with the whole evening. We donât get asked or offered to see the dessert menu once we had moved from our table. The Star is a lovely pub with a friendly atmosphere but appeared so cramped and busy on our visit that customer service was definitely let down.. The experience...

We were introduced to Johnny by friends of ours who live in Tideswell. I wonât give away their name but letâs just say they are major contributors to The Starsâs business⊠weâve been before but today was the first time for Sunday lunch, and it was the best value weâve enjoyed for many a year. Roast lamb and beef were our choices for today and they lived up to and beyond our hopes and expectations. There were amazing homemade pies to be had as well but thatâll have to wait for another time. We could hardly find space for the creme brĂ»lĂ©e dessert (which came free as weâd ordered before 3pm).
Johnny and his team were amazingly friendly, down to earth and professional, all delivered to a backdrop of friendly banter and welcome from the other diners and drinkers who give this place the great reviews it deserves.
Weâll be back next...
