This is the third time I've visited this pub due to it being my daughters favourite place to go after a walk in the area. We absolutely love their sunday roasts , we find none of the pretentious rubbish that some pubs try to force on you. This is delicious locally sourced grub with a touch of "home cooked about it. The meats are perfectly cooked and well seasoned, the roast spuds have a perfect crispy coating with a fluffy interior, and the gravy is to die for! All is served with a generous portion of veg none of this couple of Carrots hear and a Cauliflower floret there perfectly person, there's is always plenty to spare ! They also have a great menu for other cooked food, which again we've found always well cooked and presented. It's a traditional pub that serves the usual commercial lagers and soft drinks but also has 5 or 6 draught ales on as well, so plenty of choice. We have also always found the staff welcoming and friendly with nothing too much trouble for them. If you can, get a table outside overlooking the church, if you time this right when all the tourists and bikers have left the peaks to go home, you will have a peaceful experience with that rural village pub vibe. This place is well worth a visit! Note : The photo included only shows the meat plate as I was a bit premature in my picture taking as the veg hadn't...

When we arrived we didn't realise that there was car parking for residents available through the archway. No big problem, but just something to be aware of. This is a lovely pub offering comfortable and clean accommodation. We had Room 2 which was clean and comfortable but quite small. Nevertheless, there was a plentiful supply of coffee, tea, milk and biscuits and a small television. We were perfectly comfortable for one night, no complaints at all. In the evening we ate in the lounge bar. A decent selection of pub food was available. I opted for a medium rump steak which was tender and tasty, served with all the trimmings. A pint of Directors washed it down. Later, after a walk to exercise our dog, we settled down in the lounge for a large glass on a very good Merlot each. Now the WiFi is a bit hit and miss. There was no phone signal available in the village {Vodafone} so the WiFi is a must if you need to access emails and so on, so thus was a minor irritation. After a sound night's sleep, we both enjoyed an excellent full English Breakfast with cereal before and toast and marmalade afterwards. Thus place offers excellent value for money and we can...

Poor food standard & aggressive manager/owner: Ordered fish and chips and they arrived very dark brown, both fish and chips were of the same shade. When we tasted the food, it was obviously over cooked and under seasoned. Upon the request for the food to be redone, the male manager/owner arrived in a very aggressive manner, totally unprofessional. Instead of apologetic behaviour, we were greeted by being blamed for complaining, “since no one has complained that day about the food quality”. Finally, he agreed on serving chips that were less overcooked and when the new portion arrived he slammed the plate in front of us and said “enjoy”, as you can imagine, in a very sarcastic way. Food is poor and the male manager/owner was completely out of line for raising his voice and being completely unapologetic as all we wanted was less overcooked chips (photo...

We booked to stay for one night. Beautiful location. Martin, nicola and grace were so welcoming. The pub is lovely with plenty of real ales to choose from. The pubs football team came back to the pub and also made us feel welcome plenty of happy faces. We booked a table for 6pm to dine. If you want to eat here it would be advised to book in advance. The food was great cant fault a thing. Had a full English in the morning this was also great food. The pub was dog friendly. The room was clean and tidy very comfy bed. Room was a little dated but as they state on there website this is a pub with rooms not a hotel with a bar. Would highly recommend and will definitely be re visiting. Many thanks to you all for a great weekend.
