The owner Lyndsey was really helpful and accomadated us well. We were in a group and have camped here for years now and really enjoy the laid back atmosphere. If you are wanting 5 star all singing dancing campsite with lots of toilets and showers and entertainment, this is not for you however if you are wanting a friendly relaxed place with beautiful views to wind down around a fire pit with friends and bbq this is definitely for you. The pub on site is beautiful and serves all homemade food and staff very friendly There was a wedding and a big birthday party on the night we wanted to book 14 of us in for an evening meal and they managed to cook for us all on time and without any mistakes. I would highly reccomend the miners standard for anyone wanting a weekend break. Ideal for walkers too. We'll be back again next year.l Enjoy!! Sharon and the pirates. X

Not much to say other than, A brilliant little pub!. Wes was super welcoming and the food was on another level! They let us order half hour early as the chefs was already in which was nice as we was happy to wait till the kitchen opened. The atmosphere was top notch, the pub & facilities are exceptionally clean and well looked after. We camped here for £7 pp (kids are free) which is cheap in my opinion (showers are £1 coin run if you want one) and the views around the pub/field are so pretty. Enough space for easy 20+ campers/vans/ motor homes with a nice gap between them. The food and drink here is excellent value for money along with the camping. We will definitely be back in the future. Keep up the great work Wes and the team 👏

Last visit was approx 18 years ago, but the food is still top notch, my wife had the Chicken Hartington, chicken breast in a Stilton creamy sauce with a slice of bacon, homemade chips and salad, I had from the specials board, lambs liver with bacon in onion gravy, mustard infused mash and seasonal vegetables, highly recommended, you don't see it very often in pubs. They also keep a lovely pint of Marstons Pedigree ale Campsite at the rear of pub for caravans, motorhomes and tents, also Bank Top cafe recently opened but not had chance to visit it yet, but menu looks great, dog friendly throughout, very helpful staff, well worth a try

The pits! Had lunch at the Miners Standard (winster) 7/8/18 ... we thought we were lucky when we came across this place as when we went in there was only a couple of people in the bar and all the other pubs in the area had been really busy, However we soon found out why this was! We chose our table and as the rest of the party looked at the menu I went to the bar to order drinks. Beware if you want a pint of shandy or a drink with a mixer in it such as Coke or lemonade because you get flat lifeless mixers poured out of 2L plastic pop bottles. The bar is what it is, but if you don't like the smell of old wet dog this is not the place for you, the smell of dogs went right through this place in fact there were about 4 possibly 5 dogs that came in with people just after we had sat down. It was too late to leave by this time as we had ordered our food although had we known how long we would have to wait for the food we would never have bothered ordering it in the first place. Ours was the only cheque that went through to the kitchen and that was at precisely 1 o'clock, at 1:40 one of our table had to enquire as to when our food would be ready, that is a long wait for five hungry travelers especially when we only ordered 5 main courses. When the food did finally arrive it was absolutely horrible, one of our party had the Yorkshire pudding roll with roast beef inside.. now I'm no chef but I'm pretty sure it should not have been black and crispy! And 2 Aunt Bessie's roast potatoes? oh come on, surely any Cook could roast a few potatoes? Another of our party had what was described on the menu as a "sausage baguette" what arrived was certainly not a sausage baguette, it was two or three black greasy sausages crammed onto a long roll. With the sausage thing came a bowl of chips lol well I say chips it was more like a bowl of greasy raw horrible tasting potatoes. Unfortunately none of our group enjoyed any of the food. I don't know if this place has just been taken over by new owners but we felt like we were sitting eating in someone's sitting room, as the people that own this place ( and their kids) were treating the bar as their sitting room and were busy bodying around us and talking as if we weren't there. If you are wondering why I didn't complain at the time about the appalling food it's quite simply because one of our party was feeling quite ill ( nothing to do with the food I must point out) and we just needed to get out of there as quick as possible. To sum up ... if you don't mind flat un fizzy drinks, burnt poorly cooked and presented food combined with the smell of stinking dogs then you may want to give this place a try, however I'm sorry to say we nor any of our friends or family will...

Fantastic new menu tasting night. We have never been on a tasting night and we were taken back by the 13+ courses we tasted.I couldnt pick a favourite as they were all incredible. The presentation was superb and the flavours amazing, chris the chef pulled out all the stops, we started with a sausage and mash dish which up until now you can not beat the ivy.We had black pudding with a brown sauce caramalized onion topping and a perfect poached egg, there were homemade brioche bun burgers, the burger had the taste and quality of the best fillet beef,we had a pie in a casing of pastry that resembled a ceramic bowl, but did not realise at first this casing can be eaten and that was an experience i have never tried before, the filling was a succulent beef bourguignon and some of the pies had pastry lids whilst others had a yorkshire pudding on top which was perfectly risen. There was a fantastic buffalo broccoli dish with a really tasty dip, we had pheasant beautifully cooked and tender, a lasagne like no other i have tried (even better than my own) a tender chicken dish with succulent ribs, i dont eat rare beef so when a dish came out that was rare beef it looked so nice i did try it, i was hooked i dont know how he cooked it but i would definatley have it cooked by chris again.I love dauphinoise potatoes but the way chris did his was unreal i wanted more .By now i was quiet full, but i had to try some of the ploughmans which had homemade pork pie (i forgot to mention chris homemade black pudding sausage roll wow ) and a fabulous choice of cheeses, there was more dishes but i can highly recommend all of these that we tried.I have always enjoyed the food at the miners and the tasting night has to be my favourite all time food experience well done chris , lynsey , wez and everyone who made the night...

Would not have given any stars but forced to give one When we got there site looked lovely very clean spacious unfortunately you need to go in the pub and book in this is were it all went wrong. We booked a two night stay with our touring caravan and awning as another family were coming with us the owners knew this. After reading reviews I decided to ring to check if we had an electric hook up if not could we take the generator nobody answered so I left a message stating my number clearly. I rang the following night and spoke to bar staff who took my number and said they would come back to me I also booked a meal for the Saturday night. Nobody rang the following day so I again rang that night leaving another message still no reply I rang again the following day leaving a message and yet again no call back. So today came Friday came and my husband had the day off work we travelled 26 miles to get there only to be told no hook ups available and we would be on hard standing not good for an awning. We were asked to wait to see what they could do but they did take our money. Half hour later still nobody had come to see us so I decided to go and found out what was happening. The lady seem flustered and told me no hook up and no generator I think she expected me to say ok I asked for my money back and she had no idea what I had paid. Shocking service when you have children and a caravan you need some sort of electric. Yes could use battery but as caravan been in storage all year battery needs charging. The lady tried to make out she had messages which she couldn’t hear what a load of rubbish maybe she should invest in a better answer machine and I’ve never left a call where they can’t hear my number. I believe she was hoping...
