The Old Bowling Green — Restaurant in Derbyshire Dales

Not quite a proper visit but still worth 5 stars.

My partner and myself booked a couple of nights around the corner from the Old Blowing Green, during the relaxation of the covid 19 restrictions. Some pubs have opened during this time. But understandably the Old Blowing Green hadn't. However we did notice that they offered a take away service.

All I had to do was email for the next day. Which I did, absolutely no hassle, really friendly service, I paid via bank transfer so all safe there as well.

We were given a slot to pick up the food. We arrived, got our food bang on time, again fantastic, friendly and safe service. The food was perfect temperature and absolutely delicious! My partner had the steak and horseradish pie. I had the fish and chips. Sadly we hadn't taken pictures before eating, we ate it all far too quickly to think about that!

Highly recommended using the takeaway service if your visiting. And if we're ever back in the area when the pub is open fully we'll definitely be paying a visit.

I am trying very hard to lose weight so I ordered jalapeño chilli stuffed to eat. When they arrived they had been deep fried in breadcrumbs which was not mentioned on menu. If this had been mentioned I would not have ordered them. I ate the fillings but left rest which was a large percentage of the meal. I was hungry! When I mentioned this and I suggested some reduction of bill the two ladies were not interested and said they were 'not able' to take money off bill. It wasn't the money itself but some acknowledgement such as an apology and possibly a free coffee would have made a big difference.

Really nice pub, loads bigger than it looks, went in for the quiz night on NYE eve, had a great time, brilliant range of drinks, unfortunately we didn't eat.

Unfortunately, and not the fault of the venue, we had some homophobic comments from a young local, but another local on the next table quickly quashed their comment! Apart from that the everybody in the village and staff we met were really friendly...
