The Counting House — Restaurant in Doncaster

We popped in for a quick dinner tonight and we probably won’t be returning after the food we tried. We spent £45 on a meal for two which was really disappointing.

The Garlic Bread was dry with no garlic taste whatsoever, basically herby hard flat bread. The Garlic Mushrooms again didn’t taste of garlic at all. The falafel tasted frozen, the chips were brown and soggy, and the worst was the ‘Chicken Paella’ - it was white rice and plain white chicken with some chunks of bell peppers in… definitely not paella and definitely not worth the money paid for it! The portions are tiny for the price you pay and the taste/flavour was just not there whatsoever.

We wanted to complain and ask for a refund for the paella in particular but everyone was just stood at the bar so we just left.

Visited on Saturday 2nd April arriving at 7pm for a pre booked table. After being shown to our table nobody came to take a drink order or bring a menu. At 7.20 I collected my own menu from a table and caught the eye of the only waitress and asked to order a drink. 5 mins later an order was taken and at 7.30 we still did not even have a drink. At this point we left and went elsewhere. It was a very disappointing experience because we have been before and it was really good. We were actually there to celebrate a birthday so this was a real dampener on the evening. The Counting House is very local for us and we'd like to go again but not without some assurances that we will not have another experience similar to last night. I am sure that all the tables had been pre booked as it is a small venue so staffing should sufficient to look after your customers. The customer is king... I left feeling...

Visited last Thursday for tapas. Ordered drinks and sat down-waiter would bring them over. Unfortunately I ended up with the drinks all over me! Poor waiter ( first job, first shift😳) was mortified. I was pretty cool about it, felt sorry for him, don't worry clothes will wash etc.Helped to mop up the table and the floor and accepted apologies. However, although our drinks were replenished, I wasn't offered complimentary drink or anything by way of apology or good customer service. Hmm not great.
