I went into the Old Swan on Saturday with my wife and 14 yr old son for some lunch. My wife has been in a couple of times and was very complimentary about it, good food, they brew their own beer on site, it all sounded very good. Unfortunately, i never got sample any of this because they refused to serve us due to the presence of my son. Not allowed in apparently, too young. Odd that later that evening we went to another pub for dinner having missed out on lunch and it wasn't a problem. The really odd thing was that the reasons for this refusal of service weren't explained. A 14 year old is allowed accompanied into a licenced premises to eat so it wasn't a legal issue. If a pub has a no children policy this should probably be communicated a little better than it was on Saturday. Very dissapointing both in terms of not getting to sample what my wife told me was a good pub and also the attitude of the staff towards us when they refused to serve us. i quote 'No under 16's, no expceptions'. well, no business from me then, sorry lads, I won't be visiting again even...

Read moreMy uncle was over her from the USA so we decided to take him around a few Black Country pubs, Ma Pardoes (or the Old Swan) was on the list. Wish we hadn't bothered now, we walk in to the bar and the big Black country welcome that I expected just wasn't there, a bloke behind the bar asked what we wanted, uncle asked if he could have a taster of one of the ales to be told "we don't do tasters, gaffer don't like it", remember uncle is American and has a different taste when it comes to beer so a taster would have been appreciated. Anyway we all had a beer and some scratchings and sat down, finished our beers and left. Given that this one of the more famous Black Country Pubs I think they need to work on their customer skills when tourist end up in their bar, didn't seem very welcoming, could have...
