Hmmm. Been a frequent customer here for the past five or six years. Sadly, but surely, I've come to the conclusion that I've made my last visit. The exterior is in desperate need of maintenance. The posts that support the 'smoking shelter are rotten through, wooden panels are loose and barely hanging on. These safety concerns are obvious and in immediate need of attention. It all adds up to a lack of pride in presentation. The dining room itself is unique in it's decor. The bar staff consistently dither when challenged with the task of serving two pints and two whiskies. A warm welcome is beyond their repartee. Quite often you can witness staff being rather too sharp or disinterested with other customers. We often dine around 6 in the evening which is evidently 'winding down' time for the carvery fayre. Often, meats have sold out, or staff have tried to make whatever remains last to the bitter end. I haven't had any beef in my last 3 visits. There's never a full dining room so I'm at a loss as to why there's rarely a full choice. Chef implied 'that we came earlier'. It's a massive negative and comes across as being too thrifty. Since COVID there has been no soup or starter salad option which was always a pleasant warm up after a hard day's work. Shame. The Crown was once a reasonable option but has sadly misplaced it's pride and warmth. Sad to see a business decline, but decline it has. With regret, we have no...
Read moreAs a frequent visitor to Desi pubs, I was really happy to hear The Crown would be opening up as a Grill. The promise of a decent Mix Grill without a long journey was enticing.
While The Crown has potential to rival my favorites (Hen & Chickens, Red Lion, Champy's), it still has a way to go. The interior remains unchanged from the Old Crown, and it was a little chilly in the restaurant area, my wife had to keep her coat on.
The service was friendly and helpful, but the menu prices seemed a bit steep, especially the £12 Naan wrap.
We ordered Poppadoms, a Large Mixed Grill, Curry Sauce, Garlic Naan, and Chips. The Poppadoms were good, but the tiny portion of onion salad was disappointing. The Mint Yoghurt sauce was tasty, but the Spicy Red Poppadom dip was simply chili sauce.
The Large Mixed Grill arrived with a satisfying sizzle, but the portion sizes were smaller than expected compared to my other favourite spots. However, the quality of the meat was excellent: juicy Tikka, succulent Hariyali, well-seasoned wings, a nicely cooked lamb chop, soft and crispy Fish Pakora, and a flavorful Sheesh Kebab. The Curry was tasty but also on the smaller side.
Overall, the experience was positive, but there's room for improvement in terms of portion sizes...

Not welcoming at all in fact I’ll never be returning. Family meal was ruined as we had to find somewhere else to go as the place let us down from the get...
