Nice place and location, next to river, to visit. Daughter had booked for an hour later than when we arrived but they were happy to let us in early, there were no others inside but quite a lot of people on the outside tables on this very warm day on a Saturday lunchtime. We were informed that they had just had quite a large party in and there were quite a few items now that were not available, this was disappointing but it did not dampening our day although the selection available was now limited. Once we ordered, we did expect a wait, after all we were early but there were only two other people come in, although it did look like a lot more people sat outside. Once the food did arrive, there was a longer than expected gap between first food arrival to the last person, to the point I said to the two youngsters with us, that they could start so food not to get cold. It wasn't an excessive wait but enough to cause a minor irritant to some of us. Food was tasty and plenty of it. We had drinks but non or low alcoholic ales were very limited, not sure if others are normally available but they weren't this day. After the meal we went outside. Overall, a pleasant place to visit with nice views of the river, easy to park, and staff friendly...

Visited this evening and ordered food at 6.55pm. All good, friendly staff, didn't mention any issues with the kitchen.

7.45pm I went back to the bar to see how long it would be before we would get our food. Bar staff member went to the kitchen to check and I stand at the bar for another 10 minutes waiting for an answer. Tells me it will be 10 minutes.

35 minutes later still waiting for food and I go back in to ask for a refund, lady at the bar says there was a table of 4 who have been waiting 2 hours. I'm not exaggerating when I say there were less than 20 customers there at this point, I can't understand why there was a two hour wait, or why we weren't warned when we ordered.

As I went in to check on the refund I could then see our food ready to go, the staff didn't say anything about it being ready and then we saw them take it to another table who arrived an hour later than us. Genuinely incredible.

15 minutes later we get to the Merry Monk, tell them we're starving and get food on the table in 5 minutes. Go there instead!!!!

It's a shame as the staff are friendly and it's a location...

Shocking! Ordered two beef roasts. Waiter came out and told us there was only one so we had one chicken and one beef. Brought the roasts out but hadn’t brought cutlery out so left us sitting waiting with food in front of us. Had been told that they were serving roasts till 7 and this was before 5 so would expect to have been told if they were unable to serve a complete roast. Ours was clearly the leftovers. Dried out Yorkshires.. Three roast potatoes which tasted like they had been sitting cooked for 4 hours. And seasonal veg clearly equated to a dried out piece of roast carrot and a plateful of peas. Possibly the worst roast I have ever had out! And all for £17 each!! Against my judgement I was asked not to complain by who I was with but spoke to young man that was supposed to be in charge about how shocking it was and all he could do was...
