Hi, We went here on Sat Night of a quick drink and a meal as we had the “January blues”.

We pre-booked a table for 19:45, but when we arrived, we found only one other table eating. My wife and I ordered our meals and after a short wait they came out. I ordered the £12 “Fish & Chips”, found the meal was served on a luke-warm plate with almost cold chips, and the fish was over cooked and very small portion, not a good start. My wife had ordered the £19 steak, she found a steak that looked like and the same size as a “beef burger”, again with almost cold chips & plate. We eat our meals, paid the bill and left.

Please understand that the food was of good quality, but it was the way it was cooked, presented and served that really let this place down. It really is basic to serve the food hot and on a warm plate, even if it’s small portions.

We both said that we should have gone down the road to “The Harvester” where we would have got a better / hotter meal and a...

after travelling 22 miles to get to the castle we were greeted and shown to our table. The seats were dirty and very uncomfortable. We were offered drinks which came out a few minutes later. We ordered our food and waited which isn’t a bad thing at least you know it is being cooked from scratch. Three of our party ordered fish and chips the other ordered a ham dish. Well the fish and chips came out over cooked and so were the chips the ham was sandwich ham out of a packet. The service was absolutely terrible. We were not offered anymore drinks or asked if everything was ok. Our plates were collected and that was the end of any communication from the landlady. We didn’t even get the chance to have a desert. We were very very disappointed and will certainly not be making the long trip again. Once again very very...

My son booked a table for 6. 4 adult ,2 children, a week b4 mother's day. We arrived 15 mins early, asked to go in other bar as the table was still occupied, 45 mins later we asked if table was ready, they were cleaning it a third time by now it was 4.30. They didn't know what was going on , another table of 8 people had been waiting 2 hours and still not been served. We spoke again to the bar staff. Said we we're leaving, she replied ,we'll get a table as soon as we can. What and wait 2 hrs for our food that hadn't even been ordered.. I've never given a bad review b4, but honestly it ruined my day.. They need bar staff, that know what their doing. As for the cook, over 2 hrs for the other table? And still no sign of a starter.....

Was disappointed with the roast beef it was cold and my Yorkshire pudding was burnt to a cinder there was a lot of veg but it was fairly warm and the beef was barely cooked was looking so much for a roast the beef was so thick as well I did say about the meal being cold and put it under a grill when it came back it was still cold asked her about putting in the microwave and said the plate was too big the Yorkshire pudding should never had been put on the plate my partner dinner was the same I thought that they would had given us money off the meal

Another great Sunday roast dinner at The Castle. All cooked to perfection. I had the roast pork belly which was delicious and had a great crackling. My wife had the roast chicken wrapped in bacon which was also delicious and nicely cooked and very succulent. A great selection of vegetables and very decent portions too. A delicious lime cheesecake with vanilla ice cream finished off the meal nicely! All attractively presented and delivered with polite and friendly service.

Thankyou so very much to landlady Sarah and her friendly and hard working serving team. My wife and I both had a quite fabulous Sunday lunch here today. It may indeed be one of the best pub Sunday roasts we have ever had. This is a well oiled team who know their business inside out, and the food is clearly prepared and cooked with love by a skilled chef who is evidently passionate about their trade. Very highly recommended.
