Last night it was 3 degrees outside and on entering the restaurant we noticed that it was no warmer. I asked if there was any heating and the waitress just pointed to a small radiator. We had a booking for my 83 year old Mother's birthday dinner and consequently she had to sit for the entire meal in her coat! Whilst looking at the menu where 2 of the 3 menus had food on them, we ordered a bottle of wine and a jug of tap water. The water glasses never arrived.
On previous visits, a bowl of thai crackers was put on the table but not this time.
We decided to have starters followed by an intermediate course and upon attempting to order we were told that we could not have an intermediate course! We must have looked as though we couldn't afford to pay for what we wanted to order so I made it very clear that we would be ordering what we wanted! Since when are you told in a restaurant that you can't order what you want???
We ended up asking twice for water glasses before they eventually appeared.
Our intermediate course was a bit messy as we were using our fingers to eat chewy, gristly ribs that on previous visits had been so much better. We also had duck yet we did not get a finger bowl. I asked for one as we had used our serviettes. The waitress slapped a few packets of wipes on the table and that was that.
When our main course came we didn't have any serviettes and as none of the waitresses were around i had to stop eating, get up and go look for someone to obtain serviettes from.
The pad thai was somewhat slimey as though in a plum sauce, not great.
I explained to a waitress that it was my mum's birthday and asked if they do anything for a diners birthday to which the answer was an emphatic 'no'. Then again, if they can't afford to put the heating on in the restaurant then I guess sticking a candle in a small slice of something, is highly unlikely.
Apparently this restaurant has not changed hands which was our initial assumption given just how bad things had become and how we were treated.
This used to be a great restaurant but now it is really poor and last night was a very negative experience. We will never go back as this restaurant has slid badly. We appreciate that we are living in a cost of living crisis however, the food standard is bad as is the service and having to sit in your coat as my 83 year old Mother had to due to the lack of heating, is totally...
Read moreThis place always has lovely food, freshly prepared. Had many brilliant nights out at their restaurant.
However, this evening was my first experience ordering for delivery, which I did online. Food arrived within time and we were thrilled... Until we realised that one of our dishes that should have been tofu, was chicken. We immediately called them to explain and wanted a new one sent out. The lady who answered said oh sorry we'll give you a free dish next time. Considering that one of our group couldn't eat any of the other dishes because they contain meat, this was unacceptable. When we said we wanted another dish now, they tried to insist that we needed to collect the order and they would not be delivering. As the error was theirs, I was absolutely astonished that they expected us to collect it. After a 5 minute phone call, they reluctantly agreed to deliver the dish.
Honestly didn't expect them to have such appalling...
Read moreWhat a delightful find! We stumbled upon Khunnai Thai Cuisine during a Saturday drive to Hertford, and we're so glad we did. The cozy ambiance drew us in, and the lunch set menu did not disappoint. From the Pad Thai Chicken with Crispy Tofu to the Mixed Seafood Chilli Basil with Jasmine Rice, every dish was bursting with flavor. The Chicken Coconut Soup (Tom Kha) was a soothing addition, and the Fried Ice-cream for dessert was the perfect sweet ending. The prices were reasonable, and the rum and coke with sparkling water complemented our meal perfectly. The service was exceptional - the lady who attended to us was welcoming and always wore a smile. We're already planning our next visit, especially since there's free parking at the back and we want to explore the River Lee just a stone throw from the restaurant. Highly...
