This has been my local pub for many years now. It has a great atmosphere, friendly regulars and efficient and warm bar staff. The beer is not overpriced and being a very old fashioned pub in terms of layout, it has different areas where you can be on your own, be quiet, even work and other areas where you can be sociable and have a chat. The landlord, Adam, is a highly skilled individual who has highly developed interpersonal skills. It's rare to find an "old fashioned" pub that isn't too loud and isn't a "gastro pub". There are a number of good restaurants and takeaways nearby though. Not the most luxurious pub in town, but by far the warmest and most friendly. I believe it may be one of very few Stortford pubs that still has a pool table, yet amazingly, most of the time, there are still places to find to just sit, chat or read a book. I even like the fact that it is located on the Hockerill lights so you can look down the hill from the front...

Only downside of the pub is that it's too small! Cosy some would say, but that prompted people to interact with others. Also had a resident band who provided the music. A great atmosphere all round.
