My daughter and I went on a foraging day. Fantastic time. There was only 4 of us plus the excellent organiser Stuart. We all set off to go and find crayfish, which Stuart was a little disappointed about as we didn't catch as many as he would have liked, but it gave an insight to where to catch them and how much of a pest they are. Stuart constantly gave out interesting snippets of info as we went through the day, and that was good as we didn't feel bogged down with facts. Backed to the Bumpkin for tea and to die for coffee cake. Then out again foraging for goodies, wild garlic (at last I now know what it looks like), cob nuts, and many other leaves we tasted and one that we weren't keen on was sorrel (Stuarts favourite). Back to cook lunch. Pigeon which we had to prepare ourselves, no sweat, the other 3 wore gloves but not me, hands in, whats a bit of blood between friends. Breasts were sliced and quickly cooked and served in lovely rolls with salad, yummy. Out again to find wild horseradish and we each came back with some in the hope that it will grow in the garden. Then back again to cook the crayfish with linguine and a creamy sauce made with the shells. And more cake if we wanted it. It was an absolutely wonderful day and the weather was balmy not to hot, just right for walks in the woods and countryside.
Thankyou Stuart for a marvellous day and I would recommend it to...
Read moreCurious place. Eccentric, even Enchanting. Part Cafe, part Lounge, part "Farm Canteen".
Small, but still enough space. Clean, cluttered - but in a nice way.
Kitchen visible through hatch and basically spotless.
Menu contains enough options for most likely desires: Breakfast, Lunch or Afternoon tea. Reasonably priced.
We had two coffees and one Creme Tea. Total bill £6.50 which was very good for what we got.
Coffee was good. Good taste. Not flashy and Not pretentious - just whatever you ordered, in a cup or mug.
Scones were warm, fruity and very tasty, Decent portion of decent jam, decent portion of cream. Menu promises butter too, but we didn't get it and it would have been a total waste even if we had.
Paper and books to read. Wifi. Plenty of a cast of characters to-ing and fro-ing.
Incorporates a small, but likewise eccentric farm shop.
I can think of much, much worse ways of spending...

I had an appointment with Braybrooks a vehicle installation specialist around the corner, I thought I'd look around for a local breakfast cafe, found The country Bumpkin, ordered the full English or equivalent item as it was called something else, the food was amazing cooked to perfection, high standard of sausage and bacon. The chef brought the food over he was very polite. Also, the toilet roll in the toilet is on a deers antlers. Highly...
