We pre-booked as a table of 12 paid and deposit, so they knew we were coming, in the end there was 11 in total. We booked the table for 5pm, it was our sons 3rd Birthday, we live in the village so wanted to stay local (we had an early start the following day) We all ordered starters, and asked for the 4 kids meals to be sent with them, the starters and kids meals arrived about 50 minutes later. We then had to wait over an hour for our mains and by this time we were all getting very hungry, fed up and the kids were getting very bored. We ordered 1 pasta dish, a chicken dish , 1 Risotto, two sirloin steaks medium rare, and a Tomahawk Steak medium to share from the specials board. The two sirloin steaks both came out Medium- Well/Well- Done, so we sent them back, we then had to wait a further 20/30 minutes for those to be served again. The chef did come out and apologise for the steaks, and said a round of drinks would be deducted from the bill. The Tomahawk steak, was in chunks? Not on the bone as you would normally expect, and was mostly fat. Never seen it served like that before, also the Risotto did not resemble a risotto what so ever. It took ages for the kids ice creams to arrive, which we ordered as we were served our main course, most of the table had finished their mains before the ice creams were served.
As it was my sons Birthday, we took along a birthday cake for it to be served at the end of the meal, as it was getting so late, and there was a good chance he wouldn’t be getting any cake, it was served whilst two people were still eating, so they didn’t end up finishing their meal.
We arrived at 5pm and left as soon as everyone had eaten by 8:15 pm because of how slow the food came out. Other people had been sat there ages before they were even served a drink.
The takeaway orders seemed to be taking priority over the restaurant customers.
Even with a round of drinks taken off, the bill came to over £300 it was shocking and ruined a special family meal, and we will not be visiting again.
We have heard the restaurant is under new ownership, perhaps they need to get their priorities right, they are clearly very...
Read moreWe visited Gigi’s Italian Restaurant in North Somercotes as a large group to celebrate a close friend’s birthday—and from the moment we walked in, it was clear we were in for something special. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a lovely blend of traditional Italian charm and a friendly, local feel.
The staff were outstanding—attentive without being overbearing, and genuinely kind throughout the evening. A special shout-out to our waitress, Sevhana, who went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. She had the perfect balance of professionalism and warmth, making us feel completely at home. Her timing was spot on, she remembered everyone’s orders effortlessly, and her recommendations were spot on.
Now the food… it was exceptional. Honestly, it felt like every dish that came out of the kitchen was better than the last. Between us, we covered nearly the entire menu—pizza, pasta, seafood, meat dishes, desserts—you name it, we tried it. And without exception, everything was absolutely delicious. The ingredients tasted fresh and authentic, portions were generous, and the presentation was beautiful.
There were genuine moments of silence at the table because everyone was too busy enjoying their food to speak—and for a group like ours, that says a lot! You could tell the chefs put love into every dish. From the starters right through to the desserts, the quality never dropped.
What really stood out, though, was the way we were treated—not just as customers, but as welcomed guests. You don’t find that everywhere. It turned what was already a great night into a truly memorable one.
We’re already planning our next visit. Whether you’re going for a quiet dinner or celebrating something special, Gigi’s is an absolute gem. Without hesitation, 100%...
Read morePlease see the photo of the smallest cut T Bone steak which I felt slightly pressured into buying. On complaining it was too chewy and fatty was told by the Chef he had sold 5 previously and never had a complaint and dismissed our concerns! ! I Was made to feel my opinion and experience was irrelevant to him and not wanting any drama for my guest to see, reluctantly paid in full for 1 x T Bone Shared 1 x bowl of Chips ( the type you get in a Chinese restaurant ) I x bowl of salad - 2 x cheese cakes and 1 x Coke totalling £83.50 - the chef stood by the till waiting for us to pay - I had assumed he was there to discount my meal and was told my guest and I ate all the meat so he won’t, regardless on how we both felt. I have never felt so disappointed with a dining experience nor have I ever had meat so tough and chewy from a restaurant that shows 5* ratings - I will never visit his restaurant again and had I gone with my husband I doubt he would have been so intimidating - shocking...
