Rhubarb & Rose — Restaurant in East Suffolk

This is hands down the best cafe in East Suffolk. Rhubarb and Rose is the welcome antithesis to the rash of rather soulless black dog deli and two or three or whatever magpies and any other ‘London’ centric cafes that have crept into the area over recent years to cater to second home owners who seek the same urban trappings but in a rural setting (ie fake) and presumably locals yearning for relief (understandable) from a lacklustre pasty and lukewarm filter coffee at the time warp bakers. Unlike the dog and magpie type fairly burbling with their gentle current of superiority and over confidence and where everyone must wear black, as if in perpetual mourning for a lost authenticity, Rhubarb is colour, life, honesty, homeliness. A welcoming interior greets one and an unfussy natural atmosphere without pretensions. Rubarb’s owners are lovely genuine people, they serve excellent fairly priced food to happy customers. Really lovely little cafe. My partner and I both had cheese scones with chilli jam, absolutely delicious. My partner had a caramel latte and I had a pot of loose leaf English breakfast tea. We asked to have our scones warmed and were given the option of oven warmed or grilled. We opted for grilled, which turned out to be a great choice! What an amazing place. If we are having a treat day at work we alway come to rhubarb and rose for coffee cake or lunch. Today was ice creams. I have a nut allergy so dread trying new places, the owner takes allergies seriously as she has a family member with a nut allergy so fully understands how dangerous this can be.
