We went for breakfast this morning after my partner recommended it as he'd been before. People were being turned away at the door 'bookings only no walk ins', so I went outside and booked a table and came back inside to get seated. To my surprise the restaurant was half empty so im not sure why people were being turned away. There is a nice selection of cold things to pick from whilst your hot items cook. We enjoyed some fruit salad and pastries. Unfortunately our experience was ruined by a display of poor manners and service from the same lady turning people away at the door. Kirsty attended a table opposite us who I believe had a birthday party member and addressed them with negative demeaner. I believe the customers wanted some pastries as there was none left on the floor, she proceeded to lecture them about the ovens having to warm up and the chefs having to go out of their way in order to make them some. More was said but I couldn't make it out, but all through it she was aggressive and hostile and I could feel the tension despite sitting a few tables away. Needless to say they left shortly after (there seemed to be a bit of commotion whilst leaving) and then the waiting staff and Kirsty proceeded to gossip about them in the crew space right next to our table whilst we were eating. Made us feel very uncomfortable and awkward. Despite the childish service (talking to people with respect goes far) the hot food is freshly made to order unlike other buffet style breakfasts where it sits under hotplates. Pancakes and crumpets are a nice addition too. Just don't work in customer service if you have communication problems.

Lovely restaurant and lovely food. Great selection on the menu for food and drink. There is unlimited refills on soft drinks and on chips, if your food comes with chips. Good prices. They are also part of Taste Card now as well, so even better if you have one of those. Service is friendly. It advisable to book before-hand. There is also a bar if you just want to have a quick bite to eat and a drink or two. Free parking is available and it's easy to find. The picture is of the Choc Crownie, my favourite dessert. Which is a warm chocolate brownie, with choc sauce, white choc shavings, vanilla icecream and a sprig of mint.

I had the surf and turf. The steak, ordered medium/rare, was cooked perfectly and very tasty! Calamari was cooked just right, not chewy at all. The prawns were a nice texture, just needed seasoning. A few more fries would've been nice as it was a pretty measly portion and they weren't particularly hot either. The service was good and the waitress was nice and friendly. Nice restaurant overall with a good seating area.

We had a Meal and a breakfast here, part of a deal from the Premier Inn which is just next doors, and both meals for both of us were a disappointment.

Firstly, we took the deal assuming we got a dinner and breakfast the next morning for however much it was, i cant remember now, and we did...however we were not told when we bought the deal that half of the dinner menu wasnt available on the deal. Had we have known that, we wouldnt have taken it. I guess that's why we were not told.... I should mention at this point that the deal is bought in the hotel, not the restaurant.

Secondly, the dinners. I eventually (after having to ask what i could and couldn't order) ordered a burger, my wife had a chicken breast and chips. I wasnt allowed to double up the burger, even though it came under the mystery maximum value for meals included in the deal (which we again were not informed of when we bought the deal) so i stuck with a single burger. Our meals were left ready to be collected by the front of house staff under the warming lamps for so long that my burger was dry and her coleslaw was piping hot. I'd say 20 minutes or so. Very Poor.

Sweets were better, we had sundaes which, to be fair, were very good, but not good enough to make up for the long wait and disappointing food. we would have eaten there again had we not already paid for breakfast....

Breakfast then. A combination of cereal, toast, croissants and juice, tea/coffee etc..the usual spread and that was fine. We ate that then ordered a plate of hot food. I ordered Bacon, beans, black pudding and mushrooms. After about 45 minutes, i received something entirely different. So they took it back and i waited again for the right food to come out. Whilst waiting, i saw another plate of food go back and i heard the conversation between the waitress and the chef; the customer didnt order the bacon that was on that plate. So the chef just took it off. with his hands. Unprofessional.

Also worth noting that we we arrived, both times we had our two children with us, 6 and 1, and both times they tried to seat us at the top of the restaurant, up 3 flights of stairs, with a buggy in toe and no ramp or lift to get us up there. Just slightly unreasonable i felt, so i setting for the first floor right outside the kitchen. On both occasions as well.

conclusion: service and food was poor all round. the visibility of the meals available on the deal was extremely poor, we were sat waiting entirely too long and the food wasnt worth the wait at all. Would not go back or recommend the Foxburrow...

Awful experience! Firstly, we waited over an hour for cooked breakfast which is meant to be unlimited but by the time we would then want another cooked breakfast they stop cooking. The continental is absolutely shocking, wasn’t refilled for an hour even though multiple customers kept on asking same with the juice and coffee machine. We asked for the coffee machine to be filled up with milk as we were stood waiting so had to go and ask which I did politely and then the lady who filled it up was slamming around and said you’re welcome as she walked off without giving anyone the chance to say thank you. There was a female manager and one particular waitress who were so rude - my husband complained which was his right as we weren’t receiving good enough services for something that’s meant to be “unlimited” the manager didn’t even apologise to us or try and rectify the situation just said I can’t talk to you and refill juice at the same time?!?!?! Which is ridiculous. Then after all that herself and the waitress were talking rudely about us as we walked past which is so unprofessional and then even after that nothing rectified, no apologies just continuing to slam around and giving the table dirty looks. Apparently this is justified by it being bank holiday weekend but none of that behaviour or attitude is justified towards customers and customers have the right to complain if something isn’t right. The eggs were also snotty and undercooked but we didn’t bother complaining about that because we would’ve just got more attitude from the manager. Beefeater seriously need to have a hard look at the staff. Don’t even deserve one star. Absolutely shocking. You get better service and food at the McDonald’s. The shame is we are local people but will not be returning and telling everyone...

Sadly!!! I have to give a star to leave this reveiw.

This was by far the worse service I had ever experienced. We booked for 18 people . Three separate families. On arrival we were taken down to the down stairs room that would have been perfect, should it not smelt of RATS . We had a new born baby, disabled children who find smells difficult. We then approached our server, un be known she was the manager . The most arrogant person I have ever met, I assumed people with a management position were in those positions for a reason. The manager then replied “ yep I know it stinks what do you want me to do” we requested to be moved to which the very professional manager was not happy, we were then Told we had to be split up whilst stomping and storming around…… how can a resturant use a room they clearly know stinks . The employees were clearly on edge around the Resturant manager it was clear for all to see. She victimised us from the moment we walked through the door .

I have contacted Whitbread and put this in writing, expecting a a written complaint to be dealt with. Due to the service we experienced, I explained there is a Resturant in London called Karen’s Diner and the serving manager would get a job there easily with her rudeness and lack of people skills, however Karen’s diner is an act you pay for not what you’d expect from a country setting.

You'd be happy to know we were offered a £20.00 voucher towards a meal for the inconvenience caused , I will now escalate matters further and contact the local newspaper.

I can only advise you avoid this place at all costs. The management is shocking, the food poor and if you’re not a regular local and your face is new , you’ll be treated like an enemy.

Whitbread should be ashamed.

Shocking...
