Update 4/9/19:
Following my earlier review regarding the dated decor, and the subsequent response addressing it, I can confirm the interior has been updated and indeed the venue now looks very pleasant.
We went recently and took advantage of one of their many offers. The food seemed nicer than before, and the value was so good that we went again within the same week. If that isn't a glowing endorsement and worthy of 5 stars, I'd be doing a disservice to the venue.
Original (3 stars):
Let's cut to the chase; the Clock Inn is a pub, so they serve pub food. That's not to say it's a bad thing as the prices fully reflect that.
To its credit, the food was pretty good. For example, the New Yorker Chicken, which is advertised as two fillets, came with four fillets and the chicken was very succulent. This was purchased as part of their two main meals for £10 deal, so I was expecting a smaller version. This was clearly not the case and the value for money was palpable.
The staff were all pleasant and courteous, so no issues there whatsoever.
On the negative side, the food hygiene maybe a little suspect. For instance, the hair on one of our meals was not gratefully received, and the kitchen staff (who you can see when ordering) weren't wearing hairnets or hats.
The decor in the venue looks dated, and there is a bit of a random assortment when it comes to the furniture.
In summary, when it comes to value, they've hit upon the right level price-wise (as a family of four, we ate for £30 with starters) and when it comes to quantity (none of us were hungry when we left). Although there were a few things that let it down a little, we all said we'd go back, so that's...
Read moreLooking back to a year ago we could not have asked for better service which is why id previously rated 5 stars. I'm not sure whether the pub has new management but the last visit we had was definitely not up to standard. We ordered our starters and all was fine but it took 25 minutes to clear our plates after we'd finished eating. Then we had to ask for our mains because we had been waiting over 40 minutes . I then asked again after another 10 minutes and the waitress said (with some attitude) 'I can get you a refund'.. I said that I'm not looking for a refund, I'd just like my food to come out and even then it took another 15 minutes to come out to us. After she bought out the mains I tried the chips which were barely luke warm and pretty stale so I had sent them back. Only for 7 minutes later a hot plate, still luke warm chips, including one that looked like it has been chewed on. Being someone that has experience with working in hospitality. The staff were flapping around with no clear instruction of what they were doing with themselves.. one of the sides were missing.. the food was barely up to standard considering the chips I'm 99% sure were just sat under the hot plate for those 7 minutes and not actually cooked fresh. We used to come here around once a week as the staff and food were great. We may go back one day to see if any of it had improved but I don't think it'll be...
Read moreWe recently had a birthday party of 6 plus a child at The New Clock Inn. A vanilla iced coffee was ordered & they gave us a caramel coffee. Lamb Kofta Flatbread was stated on the menu as new & it arrived with no Lamb or yoghurt & mint sauce & the tomatoes were yellow & hard. The lamb and sauce was later brought out separately after asking where the rest of the meal was. Another member of our party (who is pregnant) ordered the Mini Mixed Grill & the chicken was cold, pink & under cooked. Another person said their coleslaw was vile & fizzy & their sweet potato fries were cremated. The sticky toffee & bourbon pudding stated "served with lashings of custard" but had one table spoon of custard on it, is that called lashings? One member needed to use the women's toilet but unfortunately the door lock was broken and both toilets were blocked. When speaking to a regular they stated that the toilets are always like this! Very disappointed!! Last year we had a good meal so something has changed, the staff & chef? It wasn't even...
