We are regulars normally visit every week a couple of times as local. I have been here twice in the last couple of weeks and had the black and blue steak new to the menu. Generally a nice piece of sirloin cooked to my liking however tonight when the food came to the table my partners (rare) was medium to well done and mine (medium rare) was well done. I apologised to the manager and sent both meals back actually including the fact our meals did not come out together and did not contain the onion rings as stated in the menu, although the place was empty in comparison to most evenings. Our second steak arrived around 15 mins later and although cooked slightly more to our liking it was either a rump steak in disguise or the cheapest sirloin i have ever tasted. The meat was full of grissle and although the flavours were there it was a very chewy shall i not say even choking experience. Is this because we complained as i have never had such a rough cut of meat here before, like i said normally beautiful. What a total let down tonight and if it wasnt for the fact we did not want to create and start up another stink and we were starving we will definitely give it a miss next time...... In addition John M approached me on my next visit really upset about my review. He apologised profusely and offered us a free meal, the same as before with a couple of drinks when we wanted. That day was yeaterday, the food come out and was outstanding, cooked to perfection, the service all the time great. The bar staff are a great team and always make you feel welcome. My experience had been turned round and John M could not do enough to make us feel welcome. A big thank you for your excellent customer service and making my local a comfortable, friendly and inviting place to be. A great job, keep up the good work and im sure this pub will continue to excel. Also a big thank you to slade for having a constant smile behind the bar even when its absolutely heaving and doing all you can to make us feel welcome. Will continue to return and recommend to family...
Read morePoor - Fair is too kind. My partner and I had decided we were going to visit this pub for the karaoke evening and have a sing. We decided to eat there first. When we arrived the tables were all taken mostly by locals who were drinking and NOT eating. We asked the Manageress if we could get a table to sit down and eat, to which she replied " I'm not telling people to vacate their tables just so you can eat, this is a pub not a restaurant" !!! Well, isn't this a Sizzling Pub, advertising online as a Gastro-Pub " with great value food " ??!!! As with other gastro-pubs, there should be an area set aside for people to eat. Eventually WE had to ask a couple who were just finishing their drinks if we could have their table, which they kindly agreed to. We ordered the £20 meal deal - 2 Courses and a bottle of wine. The tables and the bar were absolutely filthy. When the food arrived the starter wasn't too bad, but the main was shocking. I had the Chicken Melt which was lukewarm at best and when I cut into it, was watery and slushy in the middle with water oozing out of it, indicating it was brought in pre-cooked, frozen and then micro-waved!!! The chips were hotter than the chicken. I didn't want to risk getting food poisoning so I didn't eat it. When I complained I was not offered a refund or replacement, just a free shot!! I would NEVER eat here again or recommend it to anyone I respect and care about. All in all, this pub is a disgrace. I think it should go back to being "just a pub" and...
Read moreWell where do i start, went to the Two Brothers on Saturday night for some food & drinks with friends. Got in to pub about 8.30 and had to wait for bar staff to come from area behind bar approx 2-3 minutes.Eventually got served picked up Menu from bar (In front of bar staff). Went to table & started to chose food, went to the bar at approx 8.45 to be told that food was not able to be served as they had problems with the kitchen. For the next hr & a half we witnessed waitresses bringing out food to previous customers....obviously running behind on time, some customers had been waiting for some time ( They were not happy) & were offered free drinks as a sweetener. Having given up on food we had decided to carry on drinking only to be charged too much for the same round of drinks on 2 occasions. The staff were stressed & that came across in some sarcastic comments. At approx 11.30 i asked who was i charge as wanted to complain...........apparently Gavin/Gareth the manager was up stairs doing paperwork. I very much hope that this was a one off but looking at these reviews would guess not. Just like to finish off by saying that apart from having the most horrendous nights at the Plough in Portsmouth Road, this has to go down as the 2nd worst nights of the year.
Very disappointed, manager needs to shape up or ship out, don't leave all the staff to face the music. Guinness was good though which slightly eased the pain of what was a less than...
