My wife and I enjoyed our meal but my starter was served without the sourdough bread whereas my wife's starter was served with the sourdough bread as it should have been. This was quickly remedied when pointed out to staff. Whilst the food was of good quality and tasty we thought that it was expensive for what it was-combined with my experience- 4 stars for food. Whilst I appreciate that it is common practice to add a service charge to a restaurant bill we both thought that a 12.5 % service charge on top of food that was already expensive was rather steep. I would prefer to offer a gratuity according to my discretion not the hotel's. One day we sat in the courtyard and ordered two drinks which were brought out by the waitress and a 12.5% service charge had been added to these as well! Service was excellent from all the team in the restaurant & bar-especially from Halle. A Lovely young lady who was very attentive, helpful and friendly with being intrusive. Halle even made a point of talking to us at breakfast on the last day of our three day stay. A great ambassador for your company-hence 5 stars. I have given 5 stars for atmosphere as my wife and I prefer quiet dining and we both enjoyed the pleasant surroundings that the the restaurant provided. Regarding our booking for the hotel-It may be worth noting to reservation staff that they advise potential guests that any room upgrade fee is per night rather than for...

Hi there I booked a table for 2 for Wednesday 26 March 1pm. All good.

I rang shortly after booking to confirm the following :

Were dogs were allowed.. we have a small cocker spaniel... answer was Yes but not in Brasserie/ conservatory..Ok there then no probs.... re seated in area adj bar. Do you sell gluten free beer.... answer No... ok no worries Do you have gluten free food options...answer Yes.. no problem lots of options from receptionist.

All good...........

Arrived Wednesday lunch, shown table, drinks ordered... Menu's delivered..... no gluten free options... asked waiter to ask chef.... No go on the gluten today was the answer from kitchen ..... In the end my partner had the steak minus onion rings as we deduced btwn the 3 of us ( me , my partner and waiter from leicester ... who was v helpfull and apologetic).

steak was average at best to be honest... chewy and fatty .... dog enjoyed these bits... so I guess it was a plus!

Bill arrived, couple of mistakes, no probs, amended and paid...

May come back on Monday next week to try half price beef wellington... without pastry for my partner.... hopefully it will be a little better ... always try a 2nd time b4 writing off I say. Used to come here regularly, have moved away and now returned to Rutland... better next time . we shall see. Lovely place, just needs better qual food and...

Lovely hotel but we don't feel the 'promise' lives up to it where the quality of food and service go. We stayed 2 nights. Breakfast very under whelming. Luke warm fried eggs and overcooked scrambled eggs. Stringy bacon and unfortunately just not very much taste. Plates would be good warmed up so the breakfast food retains the heat when served. For lunch we ordered what was advertised on the menu as ciabatta bread with cheddar, chuckney and side salad for £10. It took a good 20 minutes to arrive even though by this time it was close to 3pm. We were really disappointed when it finally reached us and were appalled just how low quality it was in terms of value for money and taste. It looked like cheap white baguette and the portion was less than half of a roll. Inside was a sliver of cheap hot cheese with melted chuckney so the combo of both ingredients heated up was quite unappetising. Served with a few dried out lettuce leaves and crisps. No dressing. We complained to the member of staff who served it and she agreed with us not to charge for it. In its place we got a chicken caeser salad which wasn't much better in terms of taste and quality of products. The standard of food we have experienced has been really poor and spoilt what should have been a...

Our family regularly present us with an afternoon tea voucher for Christmas and this year they chose the Barnsdale, a beautiful hotel in a charming location close to Rutland Water. We arrived at reception a few minutes early and were seated immediately at a table in the bright and airy Orangery. There was a wedding party in the adjacent courtyard and our seats were perfect for a spot people watching. Straight away the waitress asked if we were ready for a pot of tea and we also ordered two glasses of prosecco. Both came very quickly followed a few minutes later by two stands each generously presented with four sandwiches, four scones (with fresh clotted cream and strawberry jam) and six little cakes. When we booked I'd advised them that my wife didn't eat meet and her sandwiches included a range of vegetarian options. The food was absolutely delicious but there was so much of it we just couldn't finish it all so the waitress brought some containers to take our 'doggy bag' home with us. This has to be one of the best afternoon teas we've had, served in a lovely atmosphere and the staff were so attentive we just can't wait to return.

Really nice hotel, comfy room and a nice shower. I think the room is ready to be renovated, it’s looking tired and could do with some tlc. Mould on the bath sealant, carpets stained, marks on the walls. None of this really bothered us but room rate probably deserves a better standard. It’s a nice hotel to chill out with lovely gardens and the option to use the spa for free. We love to have dinner at hotels we stay at, unfortunately we found the restaurant prices are far too high for what you get. Soup, fish and chips, duck salad - rib eye steak (which I don’t think it was) and 1 x half larger and lime Ā£106! The food was nice and we ate it all. The second night we went into Oakham and had a pub meal of the same standard with a couple of drinks each Ā£60! Overall I great place to stay but eat out, Oakham has numerous venues to eat at half the price.

I have nothing but amazing things to say about this hotel. We were fortunate enough to book this place last minute and we were extremely impressed. The spa facilities are immaculate; every detail has been considered. The highland cows around the spa are so CUTE 🐮 The lady that worked in the spa (I can’t remember her name!) was so lovely and friendly. We then had our evening meal in the restaurant. Not only was the food amazing, but Joseph was one of the most friendly waiters I have come across. His welcoming, warm approach made us feel most relaxed. What a lovely hotel! Will definitely be returning 🄰
