We visited this tearoom in Rosedale Abbey on a warm Bank Holiday Monday and found plenty to admire. The food was made to order and well worth the wait – fresh, tasty ingredients with soft bread and a good range of savoury choices on the menu. The cakes looked absolutely lush (though we didn’t try them this time). Drinks arrived reasonably quickly and, once it came, the food was very good – proper tearoom fare done well. Seating outside was fully taken, as you’d expect on a sunny day, but there was still plenty of space indoors.

Unfortunately, the atmosphere let the experience down. The staff were clearly overwhelmed and under a lot of pressure, and it showed. Orders took a long time to be taken, and the two owners were openly stressed, frequently speaking sharply to staff in full earshot of customers. The result was a tense, uncomfortable environment that made it hard to relax and enjoy what should have been a treat.

The food took a long time to come and the payment system also added frustration. Food is served at the table, but you have to pay separately in the adjoining shop, which has a £5 card minimum (cash preferred). The bank holiday and payment system led to a long queue at the till – it took ten minutes just to settle the bill which was frustrating on top of the delays in the tearoom. Using a handheld card machine would be a simple fix that would save time for both customers and staff. It would also help to make the card policy clear on each table so people know in advance.

Overall, the food deserves five stars, but the service, poor systems, and tense atmosphere dragged the experience down. With some thoughtful changes – staffing up on busy days, reviewing processes, and fostering a calmer environment for both staff and customers – this could easily be a five star...

Came here last year after camping at Rosedale Abbey and was lovely and staff were great, food was yummy and couldn’t wait to take family there.

However today after camping we called for breakfast and all ordered full English breakfasts. I couldn’t wait to take family there but sadly staff wasn’t friendly this visit😢 Our teenage son was told that he had to be a customer to use the toilets which he was… but daren’t say anything. My teenage daughter stood in and said that we were customers and we had all ordered full English breakfasts. The girl laughed at them and said that they will have to use the public toilets across the way! I was on crutches after having a broken ankle and had to stand ask one of the waitresses if they could use the toilet and she said yes. I sat back down and then our lad came back out saying that he was told to wait outside!

We were not happy at all having ordered breakfast which was amazing but the attitude of the lasses serving in there was appalling.

Last year we ordered took loads of cake home but today sadly we begrudgingly paid for our breakfasts after their horrible service towards our teenage children!

Won’t be visiting again!

Food might be out of this world but the attitude of the young girls serving was borderline bullying with them laughing and telling them to use the public loo.

I should have never had to get up and my partner wanted to ask for refund to go elsewhere.

Very unenjoyable experience and a gutting way to end our...

Really unnecessarily hostile to hikers. We came, bought some of their lovely food. However when we were eating outside on the picnic tables we got shouted at to leave, despite the vast majority having bought from them. Its a great shame because the other members were going to buy a few more things, but were quite appalled at the attitude of the servers so decided against it in the end. As a group we will never go here again. EDIT: respectfully, there were 11 in our group not 20 and 7/11 had bought something, with the rest of the group planning to before we left. So yes that is a majority. Yes you asked in a calm voice the first time, in which the ones who weren't exclusively eating your produce did move. But the ones who stayed, who were exclusively eating your produce, were approached by a larger gentleman who did raise his voice (hence the shouting comment). All in all, it was not a good experience. As a group we do try to encourage our members to give their custom to small businesses that we pass along the way, and have never, in the years that we have been running for, had a problem like this. So yes, it was...

Set in the middle of Rosedale Abbey Village, the tea room is a lovely place for a breakfast before you head out walking, cycling, running, just wombling around or green laning with friends like we were. The coffee was spot on for me, a little on the strong side but rich and flavourful, the bacon sandwich was fabulous as it was good thick cut bacon perfectly cooked in a really tasty wholegrain roll, my friends had a range of their menu selection and the general consensus was that we're going there again as a starting point and maybe a mid day break spot! The food is inexpensive for a tea room in the middle of tourist country and well worth coming for if you're in the area. The shop is ideal for outdoorsy people with local maps and goods on sale. The owners are warm and friendly people with a great sense of humour who are also locals and so very knowledgeable about the area.

We arrived at around 11.45 on a sunny Saturday in June and were helpfully warned there was already a wait for lunches. Very friendly and chatty staff even though obviously busy. So we opted for cakes and coffees instead, which were generous portions and more than enough for an early lunch. Carrot cake and brownie - can recommend. Lovely picnic seating area outside overlooking the green and surrounded by trees and stone-built cottages, very picturesque. Dog-friendly. Space for kids to play. Popular stop for bikers too.

Fantastic find in the middle of the North Yorkshire moors. Not just a stores but an excellent tea shop. Beautifully prepared fresh food, homemade cakes and great fresh coffee. My husband had a bacon bap with lots of quality lean bacon. I had the tuna/cheese panini with a super fresh side salad. Simple food very well done. Great atmosphere. Spotlessly clean too. Well behaved dogs welcome. Husband and wife team are a great act! They brightened up a damp gloomy day with their friendly Yorkshire banter.
