From the moment I arrived, I was lucky enough to be double-barrelled by both Beths and what an absolute treat that was! Their service was second to none: attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming. It’s rare to experience that level of personal care, and having both Beths looking after me made the experience unforgettable. A masterclass in hospitality!
Now to the food absolutely divine. I had the steak and ale pie, which was nothing short of spectacular. The pastry was golden and crisp, giving way to a rich, tender filling of slow-cooked beef in a deep, flavourful ale gravy. It came with thick-cut chips (crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside), a side of creamy mash, fresh seasonal vegetables, and an extra jug of gravy because there’s no such thing as too much when it’s this good. Even went the extra mile and gave me slice of bread to mop it up.
Washed down with a perfectly chilled pint of Birra Moretti, this was a proper, comforting, high-quality meal. Every bite hit the mark.
Fantastic food, flawless service, and a warm, relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend and if you’re lucky enough to be served by a Beth (or both), you’re in for a...
Read moreVisited for the first time on Sunday & what a find! There is nothing to critise & lots to compliment. Some lovely real ales, helpful advice flowing from Ian, one of the bar staff who cannot be praised enough. He is a very fascinating local character who added immensely to the enjoyment of our overall evening being able to chat more as he got quieter. The quality of the food & wine were to be highly praised & a credit to the chef. My strarter (chicken strips) & the delightful herb crusted haddock steak enjoyed by 2 of us was absolutely superb! All the food was very reasonably priced as well. Ian spoke highly of the landlord & some other staff & it's success clearly has a lot to do with the staff feeling like one big family. This is an exceptional hostelry that you should visit as soon as your situation allows. Top Marks Landlord, 5...
Read morePoor reception at a this lovely looking village pub. We were there 3hrs, sat outside freezing and trying to watch the England match. Whilst every other table inside was empty. Literally only half full. They did the same to another family with young children. We asked really nicely and said quite clearly we were really happy to move if someone came who'd booked a table, we'd even clean it down for them. But all we got is just a rude 'no'. We left after nearly 3hrs and during that time, no one arrived to sit at any of the empty tables. Uncaring, terrible service. Id brought my sister in law and niece to Yorkshire for a few days and this was their first impression of Yorkshire hospitality. Such a shame. Good result for the match though! And...
