Omg what can I say. Disappointed is not the word. I need to look for a word that describes my evening last night. I thought I’d book a room as my husbands had a stressful week at work ( he’s a chef in a busy Newcastle establishment) We have looked at your hotel so many times. I’m from Beamish but moved to Newcastle 15 years ago. I even encouraged my son to book his wedding here up till this meal. The room was gorgeous on check in. We booked the dinner bed and breakfast deal. We came to the bar as soon as we checked in at approx 6pm. Lovely and cosy. Our table in restaurant was booked for 7.45. We ordered and paid for our drinks not adding to a tab paying as we went. Had a lovely hour and 45. Bar staff were very good. Only thing was , it sounded like a herd of elephants above us. Went to restaurant and were sat infront of doors with no curtains so it was freezing ! Had to ask to go and sit in the bar again with some heat. Food came. Fries were appalling. Bottom of the bag dregs. The chicken in my burger was probably a 3rd of a chicken breast . Bland and tasteless. Best buy the side of green beans I ordered. We also ordered fish and chips. Batter ok but barely any fish, and the mushy peas were mushed petit pois so hard to chew and certainly not mushy peas. Chips on that were ok. We did say to the waitress when she checked back it wasn’t satisfactory and she offered a desert but quite frankly who wants a desert after a poor meal. Not her fault at all. Meanwhile river dance was going on above us throughout. We were so disappointed and can’t believe that a gorgeous night ended this way. Such a shame. It’s a tying place Beamish when you’ve had a drink so you’re tied to stay within the grounds here which is fine if it’s perfect. It wasn’t perfect at all. We stay in lots of nice places and it’s rare a below par review is left but given the price of the room , the amount of chefs in kitchen . I really would expect far better. Would I return or tell people to come no. Not based on the evening. Gutted to be honest. Following on from last night .The room was beautiful as I’d said .Bed was super comfy and the room was lovely and warm. However upon going for breakfast this morning we were bitterly disappointed. A luke warm buffet breakfast with hard sausage and barely cooked bacon and soggy hash browns , no fried egg was just below par. When coming to an establishment like this we would really expect better. Most places cook to order when you are paying this kind of price per night. I can honestly say when traveling I’ve had better travel lodge breakfasts. The coffee was lovely but yet again the room was freezing. Surely you can turn some heating on. Overall very disappointed is all I can say. Such a shame as your venue does look lovely on paper. But when booking it’s not just about the room it’s about the whole experience of which the food is...
Read moreJust got married here and all we can say it WOW. The new wedding team in place at the Blackhorse are the most amazing, kind, caring, thoughtful, helpful, accommodating people we've had the pleasure of meeting and dealing with. Our start to the wedding journey wasn't the best and the lack of communication was insulting. We had 5 weeks to go and still had no contact at all. Then we met the amazing Donna !! From the first initial hello I knew our wedding was going to be handled with care and affection from Donna and her new wedding team. She instantly made me feel at ease and assured me she would personally handle our wedding and make it as magical as possible for us. The communication from Donna and her staff leading up to our big day was perfect and nothing was a bother to them. It's a shame Donna wasn't in place when we booked the wedding but now that she has control of the weddings and events up there I can personally guarantee anyone looking to get married in such a lovely venue with such an amazing team then the Blackhorse has to be looked at. The room was set perfect and it's December so had all the Christmas decorations up too, nice warm fires and lovely lights made the atmosphere of the room perfect. We got married in the George Ridley Room and had our full day here, from Ceremony to evening reception the whole day ran perfectly for us. The food was amazing and not one complaint from anyone. Perfectly cooked and presented to us. The drinks package was good too with wine on the tables, arrival drinks and pink prosecco for toasts. Once we were married the turn around of tables and chairs to get the room set for the wedding breakfast was done with ease and very prompt to. The tables looked amazing and we gave Donna and her team free reign of dressing them nice and boy did they deliver. Absolutely amazing and we couldn't of asked for a better day. I know there are some bad reviews from wedding experiences left about this venue, but please be aware this was before the amazing team were in place at the Blackhorse Beamish. Our day was perfect from start to finish and we highly recommend this venue. Just an amazing day spent with amazing family and friends in a perfect venue with a perfect experience from all of the wedding team, the bar staff, all the chefs and everybody involved with making our day so special. Thank you to Amanda and her housekeeping team for making the bridal suite perfect for us. We loved our room and it was just perfect for us. Always remember that Donna is the boss but don't upset Anne or there will be trouble haha. Thank you so much to you all !! Simply...
Read more24/01/2023 - Beautiful venue and location. We had our hearts set on this venue and despite the really poor lack of communication I’ve still tried to move forward with a booking. We had a booking to view the venue back in July 2022, after hanging around for over 40 minutes (pregnant and with a toddler) we were told the lady we’d booked with was off sick and hadn’t called in (she rocked up a short while after so who knows what was going on). We were eventually shown around by Ann, who was lovely! Discussed with her what we were looking for, our wishes and preferences etc and walked away extremely happy! The following week we had email communications and phone calls because what we were told was slightly wrong and because of what happened on the day and the misinformation we’d been given we confirmed our wishes with a few complimentary added extras for the mix up. We was also advised they were moving to a 6 month late package but would honour the 9 months because of the above. We were happy with this and the efforts made and because we was after the late availability package for a wedding in July-Sept 2023, we confirmed we’d be back in touch when this fell into 9 months and book a date. We have family abroad who need to book flights etc so would like to give them as much notice as possible. Fast forward to December, I got back in touch to be told they will no longer honour the above & after some emails backwards and forwards and being responded to straight away and others being ignored for days I asked for the managers details. Eventually, he got in touch. A lengthy email to him and again, no response. I have sent several emails to have no reply for days upon days. I’m starting to lose hope and despite the lack of communication and being messed around once again, our hearts are still with this venue. Starting to look like we need to find an alternative venue as they clearly don’t want our custom 😏
Updated 26/01/2023 - really saddened to see that the comments I’d left on Instagram and Facebook trying to get a response (still after receiving such poor “professionalism”) have been deleted by Black Horse and It seems I’ve also been barred from their Instagram. Absolutely gutted. Someone clearly doesn’t want me getting in touch or reviewing their business on...
