If I could give less than one star I would. From the moment we walked in, we were made to feel really uncomfortable. It was pretty cold so I went to have a look at turning the radiator up, a bald man serving us just snapped at me "it's on a timer."

We then ordered from the Sunday set menu at £13 ish each for three courses. We asked if we could have all roast potatoes with our Sunday roast rather than a mix of boiled and roast, and we're met with an icy response of "well, I can ask but I don't know, maybe" etc. Then my roast dinner arrived without a Yorkshire pudding and with the meat very dry and unappealing. The portions are huge, great if you're hungry, but I said I wasn't gong to order dessert. However, I was then told that I had to order a dessert in order to get the £13 deal, and if I had just the two courses I would actually pay more in total. Which makes sense in no universe whatsoever. I ordered a cheesecake I didn't want or really eat just to get the set menu.

Then no one came to clear our plates, and no one came to give us the bill, nor was there anyone around to ask. We went up to the till and asked to pay individually. We were told by the same man "I don't want you all standing round here, because other people are trying to eat." And sent us to the adjoining room in the restaurant, which was also very busy. I said "well the thing is no one brought our bill to the table and there was no one to ask." The awful rude man then replied "look, if you're going to be funny about it then I won't even bother splitting the bill for your group." As if he was doing us a favour. This was the most shocking part of the experience and so unprofessional.

We left feeling belittled, and spoken down to. This man was so unbelievably rude from start to finish, and this establishment needs to learn some extensive hospitality. Our visit was seriously lacking any friendliness or good service. Maybe it's because I came in with a southern accent, maybe it's because I'm a woman (he was very nice to my fiancé and even took his coffee off the bill) but the lack of respect paid was just insulting.

Please, PLEASE, do yourself a favour and avoid this place at all costs. Beyond rude staff and sub...

Lovely little pub, very friendly staff, customers & atmosphere! We called short notice on a Saturday night and were obviously busy and unable to accommodate at short notice though they really did try, just our 10 month old didn't want to wait 😂

We were told the upstairs section wasn't really pushchair friendly anyway but downstairs was and if we could grab a table we could grab some food, we had a go and really glad we did!

Didn't actually go upstairs so can't comment on that but downstairs was nice and cosy and not so much for this time of year there is ample seating outside, I can well imagine during the summer time this would be one VERY busy pub.

Food wise, only one bit of what we ordered was unavailable but staff apologised and offered a replacement option no fuss, food was quick to arrive and very nice! Great presentation and I'm sure most of it locally sourced, one other thing.... HUGE portions! We had only had breakfast in the morning but skipped lunch during a busy sight seeing day, we both had starters and mains but both failed to finish what was ordered.

Drinks wise, as you can see we were hitting the hard stuff..... Great selection of ales and a couple of ciders and different larger from what I could see, great all round selection, great all round...

Staying next door at the Chequers Hotel - I was locally recommended to try the Brown Cow for Evening Meal. I entered the establishment - it may not be the most luxurious decor, however the welcome was warm and friendly!

I ordered my food and sat in the a corner table - with my wallet & phone on the adjacent seat (it's more important later)

my food was served piping hot and plentiful - I opted for the Fillet Steak which was outstanding and the peppercorn sauce is their own recipe which was very pleasant. Note however if you plan to eat here - don't have a lunch prior to going as the servings are huge!

A very well appreciated meal and I will be back!

I woke up the following morning and had lost my wallet! - needless to say we always need to retrace our steps and I was very surprised to find Yes I had left my wallet on the seat next to me - it had been handed in and after some security checks (name - address etc) I was re-united with the wallet. Such honesty these days is rare and utterly...

I feel the kitchen made up for the front of house service here. The atmosphere was extremely informal with serving staff speaking to other tables while taking our order. We booked a table for 7:30 and arrived at about 7:15 it wasnt busy so managed to get seated, however a member of staff said "you booked at 7:30 yeah? Il take your order in a bit" he returned at 7:30 The pub was very nice, really relaxing and good atmosphere Food was a great price, ordered the bbq chicken which looked fresh and tasted amazing, you wont go away hungry. We also ordered the steak pie, see photo. It included a massive slice of pie, a cauliflower, a broccoli, a few sliced carrots and a single pea which caused much confusion. I managed the whole plate minus the pea. I didnt want to over do it. I would go again but I would go for the food not the service

Was staying across the road so gave this a try. Is a nice looking pub with quite a traditional feel. There are a lot of seats upstairs for food but mainly for a drink downstairs with a seating area and car park outside also. Good selection of food and drink. We were told on arrival that there was a 15 min wait to order and 45 min wait for food which was a shame. Ordered the garlic chicken breast and spicy chips. It was decent tasting however one of my chicken breasts was raw so overall spoiled the meal. Told the lad working and he was very nice about it. Not sure of his name but he was good both on the bar and with food.
