I have stayed here a few times, and have always found it a flexible, welcoming place in the center of Marlborough with a wonderful team of staff, the above is not changed. They also have some work going on at the moment, so that may have a bearing on my comments: Alas the room quality has alas gone downhill, our superior room was superior only in floor space compared perhaps to standard rooms, it was clean and the housekeeping service was fine But the rooms alas it can be best described as a bit tatty, it looks like someone has had a go at the door and there is makeshift plumbing repair in the shower, and there is bed-settee which frankly is ready for the tip. The four-poster bed looks great but is a very firm/hard mattress with matching pillows, and while overlooking the high street is great for people watching (and then listening to the fabulous guitar busker outside Waitrose from the room), you pay a price with early morning deliveries like 06:22 today.... Ohh and the extractor fans in the bathroom, they run for an age and I am sure could be fitted with silent motors.... All of this can be fixed, and hope it is, this place is the gem on the high street around which everything else revolves.... Was 4 star, 2 for now...

I would like to pass on, how amazing this wonderful place is! This evening was mine and my partners first time at the Castle & Ball, from just a quick visit I can only say good things about it. Firstly, we had accidentally sat in an area reserved for people who were staying at the hotel, with this information given to us we mentioned we were happy to move, however they went out of there way to move some things around on they system allowing us to stay seated where we were (This was greatly appreciated, due to the fact of my partner being 9 months pregnant). Secondly, the staff and service we had was the best we've ever had, they gave us information regarding the pub/restaurant; meaning we now know they have some amazing deal on set days and the option to takeaway. Finally, the food was amazing and both meals tasted amazing. I would recommend the Signature Fish & Chips (Please note this is a very large meal). We can only recommend the Castle & Ball and hope you have an amazing time, just as we did.

We went in for a midweek lunch as we have been to Castle and Ball before and the food and service was fantastic on previous visits - I unfortunately can’t say the same for this time we came! My partners ordered a cheese and bacon burger that was missing the cheese and had one small piece of burnt bacon on it, he didn’t mind too much and ate his meal. I ordered a chicken basket - the chicken was so rock hard I couldn’t cut or even bite through it, the fries were freezing (considering we ordered as the kitchen opened) and the portion sizes too for Ā£13 were minuscule. When a member of staff asked us how our food was, I did say I physically couldn’t eat my meal (unless they had chainsaws to cut through it!) and he, without much care, said ā€˜I’ll let the kitchen know’. We stayed for a further half an hour waiting for an outcome for him to not return and we decided to leave knowing we were likely to receive no further help from staff. Very disappointed and now we know to avoid in the future!

We stayed at this Hotel to break up a trip to the Midlands and hadn't visited Marlborough before, although I had driven through about 20 years ago for work and thought it was an impressive High Street. It is still a very impressive main street and this hotel is right in the centre of it. It's an old coaching Inn, so drooping in places, but our room was full of wooden beams and atmosphere. The furniture was a bit worn and tired but that only added to the effect. It was all very spacious and the bathroom was well appointed. The bed was a good size and comfortable, if a little on the firm side. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the location very good, especially with a large, easily accessible and free car park.||Dinner in the hotel was a bit of a disappointment, for me anyway, a huge but not particularly tasty steak and ale pie and lumpy gravy. We were given a voucher which gave us 20% off the bill, which was handy and my wife's steak was good, she said. Despite facing the main street and being above the bar, the room was very quiet. ||Breakfast was a world apart from my underwhelming dinner the night before. Plenty of choice of cereals and pastries, lovely teas and coffee and the Full English Breakfast was one of the best I've ever had. Cooked to order, with butcher's quality pork sausages, perfectly cooked, lovely poached egg on sourdough toast, very good smoked bacon, mushrooms and tomato and beans. ||To sum up, it's an old hotel, car parking is great, location is perfect, staff were lovely, the room was huge and comfortable and the breakfast was amazingly good. We'd certainly return when we are...

Omg, we were from the wirral Merseyside and had been staying in Bournemouth for the week, went to swanich, etc . Food was terrible ,so on the way home, we stopped off at your gorgeous place pub ,hotel, etc and had a really late lunch šŸ˜€ šŸ˜‹ to be honest because it was gone 3.30pm I thought it would be dried up ,but to our delight everything was absolutely beautiful 100% fresh, I got the risotto, scallops and bass, and my husband the fish chips and scampi then for desert I had the strawberry prosecco choux bun šŸ˜€ šŸ˜˜šŸ‘Œand my husband got the bramley apple & blackberry tart with fresh cream ,and both had a icecold beer from the pump šŸ˜€ 😊 šŸ˜‹ I can honestly say it was the best meal we've ever had in a pub the freshness the really lovely staff etc we'll definitely be calling in again on our way yo Bournemouth we might even stay over in your hotel for your yummy breakfast ,I felt absolutely content till the next day ,and keep thinking about my meal when I'm hungry fantastic experience thankyou so much I hope you definitely have 5 stars on your door because if not there's something a miss ,best experience of our week in food and freshness plus lovely staff is always a bonus we'll done guys hope to see you again soon Maria and Barry Trivett from the wirral Merseyside xxxxx ps great price...

This old English coach house has lost its charm, it never used to be so run down and run like a cheap hotel. I've stayed hear many time over the years all the way back to when it was a THS hotel. It was always the hotel to stay in if you wanted service and etiquette but not anymore. The superior room I booked was far from, nothing like the pictures when booking, windows overlooking kitchen wall and roof. Window kept shutting due to rotting timber fixed with gaffer tape, huge crack and flaking paint, AC unit directly outside in full view not the hotel it was. No priority in restaurant for guests booking, tables in bar reserved but guests not able to book? I will say the staff are excellent and try to accommodate. Green King have run this once premier hotel into the ground even the car park is always full due to being a pay by phone for non residents, only 2 disabled bays.the food is good but again menus in rooms are not correct the steak deal is no longer available,we did get a table on our last night but was told we couldn't have dessert because the kitchen staff had gone home! The whole stay was ruined, it was supposed to be a celebration for my retirement birthday. |I will not be returning, a real shame as have used...
