2025: Yay, the nice little pub on the way home from the forest is back! Well, I'm yet to test the back window on the bike ride home, but now I know the new owners are normal folk. We are back in business.

I had the German style chicken dish, and it was solid, but I'd have something else next time as it was just a solid 3.5-4 out of 5. My partner had the fish and chips and said it was a solid 4.5/5, and she rated it as one of the best she's had locally and well sized portion. This is a lovely little pub. It's a little cramped inside, but that's part of the character of the place. Now it's warming up. You can make use of the rear seating if you want some space or go sit on the grass. Service I scored down because the waitress seemed distracted. It was quite busy, though. But it is perfectly pleasant and acceptable. Have to see what it's like next time. I'm glad to have it back on the list, though.

LATE 2021 review: One word: HOSTILE!!!

We have stopped in here for years for a quick pint on our way past when we go cycling in the forest. Never mind the rains, sun or snow. But since reopening, they have lost the plot!

You must have an approved face covering to walk from the front of the pub to the back of the pub about 5 meters, and you only need to do that to fill in a form about being inside due to covid and you only inside the pub to fill in the form?!

And if you don't have a face covering, there is a £1 face mask tax. And it's at their discression what constitutes a face covering. As something that covers your face isn't good enough so this is basically a stealth covid tax.

COVID STUPIDITY!

Avoid this place until the lockdown is over.

And I'll probably just avoid this place now due to the stupidity as it makes me wonder what other stuff is happening behind closed doors.

It's such a shame.. Don't understand why we couldn't just carry on with our takeaway pints and sitting on the...

This is one of the friendliest Pubs i have ever visited...A proper Pub!! ...We were lucky enough to have found this place thanks Helsby Running Club..You see, my Dad(Joe Beswick) was Olympic Torch Bearer in the wonderful Macclesfield on 31st May 2012.It was an honour to be there to wave our flags, cheer him on,cry tears of joy and soak up the fabulous Northern Hospitality...as well as the rain!! (NOTHING COULD DAMPEN OUR SPIRITS THOUGH!!) We continued our celebrations in this amazing Pub! We couldn't have asked for a better place to do so! The staff were like no other i have encountered, nothing was too much trouble..We filled their Beautiful Pub with rapturous cheers and merriment for a fair few hours..Enjoyed fantastic food and drink...Family, friends and new friends enjoyed themselves, strangers brought together by the the Great British Pride we have for our Country and for each other... Thank you 'Church House' for your warmth and your smiles..This is a place that 'wraps it's arms around you' Something we all did a lot of the day The Olympic Torch Blazed through Macclesfield.Proper Pub, Proper...

We were on a boating holiday on the Macclesfield canal and decided to use the pub having read the review in the GBG. The review stated that children and dogs were welcome.

So after a 20 minute walk we duly arrived at the pub with our Golden Retriever and ordered a couple of pints and sat at a table. Other customers came in and made a fuss of the dog. We were just about to get the next round in when the irate landlady turned up and told us that dogs wer'nt allowed in the pub. I informed her that we had specifically come to the pub as the GBG stated dogs were allowed.

She informed us that we could sit in another room which was dark and not big enough to "swing a cat". We felt like outcasts and duly left.

The GBG needs to get it's descriptions right and say specifically what area's dogs/kids are allowed in.

Needless to say we won't be using...

We stayed overnight here in our campervan. Spaces in their camper-friendly car park is first come first served but we called ahead to let them know, as well as to book a table for dinner that evening and a Sunday roast the next day (which was absolutely delicious by the way!). The service from the staff were second to none but what really stuck out to us was the amazing hospitality by the new landlords, Sean & Kristen, who are doing a fantastic job of running the place 👏🏽 The food was gorgeous and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. There are also 24 hour toilets and a fresh water tap available. We recommend this lovely pub stop to anyone passing through or wanting to visit the beautiful local area. Thank you to all at Church House! We'll definitely be back soon ❤️

Fab stopover in our VW in their car park. Highly recommend - our best stopover so far - access to toilets 24 hours and access to water tap. Need to book table in advance as this pub is definitely on the up. Packed out on a Thursday evening and hugely popular with locals supporting the new owners. Very hardworking friendly staff, good food including vegan option - the steak and ale pie was gorgeous and good value at £15. Lovely garden - lots of seating some under cover, kids and dog-friendly (dog treats available) and lovely location.
