Arrived very early for an outpatient appointment at James Cook University Hospital today and thought I'd get a drink and wait here but it was so crowded and noisy that I couldn't face it. I kept on walking and proceeding along the Orange Route I came across The Hideaway Coffee Shop, which was indeed hidden away behind the Rendezvous Restaurant and mainly frequented by hospital staff. Although a bit run down and scruffy in parts, I got both a mug of tea and a nice slice of Victoria Sponge for the same price as a cup of average Costa coffee. The cheese scones looked nice and homemade, while fruit scones had sold out. I enjoyed sitting outside in the courtyard area and arrived nicely refreshed for my appointment.

Sings up promoting the Maple & Hazel Latè only to be told there's non available, and they don't know if they will be available again. I then went to pay with a gift card, only to be told they don't accept them. We then got our drinks in a take out cup, and we soon learned why. There were only 2 clean tables available, as the empty tables all had dirty cups and plats on them.

In what world is it ok to serve cake and coffee in takeaway cups and bags with wooden cutlery while charging proper money? Eating carrot cake off a paper bag on a mucky table with a wooden fork is the epitome of scum. See depressing pic.

Visiting here frequently for the past two years as I am sole carer for my sister undergoing cancer treatment. We come into Costa most times. I find the atmosphere and some staff members to be extremely low moods and even somewhat rude. Not all, but a few. The food and drinks are overpriced for the quality and service. It's always busy. I can ignore most of these things, if the staff are friendly and caring, especially in a hospital setting, but bar a couple, I find most of the staff quite moody. I have visited today and there was a lady serving called Leah. I watched her with every customer and not once did she have a smile, a kind word or a please or thank you to anyone. I found her extremely moody, now I understand people have personal life's maybe impacting their mood. But ive been served by this same person a few times now and shes always the same. We are coming in, being told extremely scary and upsetting news and then going to clear our heads for a coffee, facing a moody, unpolite person doesn't make the situation any easier.

Customer facing roles. People should practice customer service skills. It makes a HUGE difference to a...

I went in to buy a latte and two teas , I asked for a cup for my 97 yr old mother as she can’t hold a paper cup . The counter girl mumbled we don’t have cups , I said there are some there and there . The dishwasher is broken . I replied it is one cup to wash . Well you can’t have one we just do paper cups . I insisted she replied will have to ask manager , well please do !!! A woman dragged herself out of the office stood and said who wants a cup , I do , we don’t do cups !! What’s those there , my mother who is a patient within the hospital was getting visibly upset at this stage , said we will just leave . No we won’t . Eventually the “ manager” said give her a cup and walked her way back to her office. Will never go in again . That is not how you treat...

This Costa is the worse costa that i have ever been too, im absolutely appalled with the lack of manners some staff members have they are rude and aggressive, a particular women that wears glasses and has blonde hair is a huge let down to the brand, rolls her eyes if asked to modify anything to the customers taste, she doesnt make the drinks to the description, and is a lazy individual, i feel like never going back shes bringing down the reputation of the place and makes me feel anxious and uneasy which shouldnt happen, All i want is a nice Costa :( This Costa isnt even worth one star if i could vote no stars i would, the staff need to learn how to have good standards, manners and not gossip about there manager its so...
