I visited with a couple of cycling friends on a Thursday. We arrived about 10:30am and it was very quiet. There was no queue to get served. Service was very friendly and helpful. There was only one person on the counter who took the food order and then made the drink before moving to the next customer. This wasn't a problem for us. However, I could imagine it taking some time to get served when the place is busy. Anyway our food arrived very quickly. My veggie sausages (3) on a bap were delicious, and my friends enjoyed their food too (beans on toast & egg on toast). I drink coffee when I am out and was given a choice of filtered coffee or ground coffee (barrister type). I opted for a two shot americano. It came in a mug and was very good. My bill came to £9.80. When you take into account the location, we thought the prices were very reasonable. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. There is a large car park next to the cafe that I am guessing people use to catch the train as there were way more cars than people in the cafe. The road (B5152) to the cafe from Hatchmere for cyclists (apart from a couple of hundred metres) is in very poor condition. Obviously, this has nothing to do with the cafe. I just made mention of it for the benefit of any cyclists who read this review. The road from the A556 / Chester Rd is 100% in better condition. Before we left, I had cause to use the mens room, and I am pleased to say the bathroom was very clean and tidy. It's a lovely cafe with lovely surroundings and well...
Read moreThe food was delicious, the staff were friendly, food arrived in a reasonable time and the prices were good.
My only criticism is that the table and the place mats were in need of a good clean. I did see a member of staff clean the table next to me, she used a spray bottle and all I can assume is that the solution was not strong enough. Our table was exceptionally sticky to the point that my hands stuck to the surface. It made me not want to lean on the table. Due to covid 19 I would expect hygiene to be of a higher standard. Hoping it was just an oversight. Everything else was great.
Just read a review from a couple of years ago that mentions sticky tables too. The reason given was the use of sanitizer! Santitizer is for hands not tables. Maybe deep clean your tables when the cafe is closed and then use generic anti bacterial spray during service. Not sure you would pass a food hygiene test especially if this is an ongoing issue for multiple years.
Thank you for your response. Good to know about the spray. It's a shame that it leaves such a horrid residue. It's so unappealing when eating. Could the tables not be refinished? It may stop you receiving the same...
Read moreAfter a long day exploring Delamere Forest me and my sister decided to have a drink before boarding our train. Upon entering we noticed the cafe shut at 5.00pm, so at 4.30 we had plenty of time for a quick drink. While we were waiting staff failed to notice our presence until a lady come to the till to serve us. We asked for 2 drinks which we were abruptly met with "you have to eat something to stay here, even 55p for this biscuit and you can't take your drinks outside with you". I thought this was strange seeing as I've never been forced to buy anything edible in a cafe before and we were already making a purchase! As we were tired and wanted a sit down we opted for some chocolate and spent 15 minutes in the cafe waiting for our train. During this time we both felt uncomfortable, unwelcome and felt as if we were a hindrance instead of a paying customer. It was clear it was coming towards closing time but it was still 30 minutes left of service and we felt a distinct unfriendly energy from the staff. In future perhaps you could reconsider your closing times if 'late arrivals' are treated in the same unsatisfactory...
