What an absolutely fabulous experience I had today on the Segways at Delamere. It was my first time and I will certainly be back for more.
The session was booked for 2:20pm and there were 7 including me in the group. Our instructor, Dave gave a great intro to the Segways. His approach was a good balance of serious and fun ensuring that everyone was going to have an enjoyable day. We had a second instructor with us today called Jay, whom I believe may well have been “learning the ropes” as it were. I actually enjoyed watching the way Dave was instructing us but also instructing and assessing Jay at the same time. Very professional and respectful of Jay’s learning opportunity and enabling Jay to get as much out of the session as we did. I am sure Jay will go on to be a fabulous instructor on the Segways. Although he has got a hard act to follow with Dave to be fair.
The session lasted in all around 1 hour and 20 minutes and took us along some great paths with a good mix of terrain meaning some areas were slightly more challenging than others.
It was great to see Dave swapping the order of the line around so we got a mix of ability going depending on confidence and again, with Jay at the back, for anyone new to Segways it just felt quite safe and well supported.
There was a good opportunity to stop at one point and Dave offered to take each person’s phone and take photographs and then finally we dropped the Segways back into slow speed demo mode as we headed back to base through the slightly more crowded starting point for the tree top adventure area. Being careful not to run anyone over as they were busy looking up at the people swinging and climbing above us.
Arriving back, we handed back to Segways in return for a lie #SmashedIt certificate to show our recognition of completion.
Can’t wait to do it again. I am just off to check the bank to buy myself a Segway of my own now...
Read moreVisited GoApe junior Delamere with my youngest boy early September 2024, it was his 1st visit now he is old enough, we live about an hour away so not a great distance or inconvenience to travel, and well worth it. He was both nervous and excited, loved watching people go around the course as we waited. We received our gear and safety harness, there is always a bit of time slippage, we were booked for 2pm but didnt get geared up until 2.20 but we didnt mind, the course had people on but not over busy. I've been before so knew what to expect, and we both had appropriate rugged outdoor clothing, no shorts or crocs. Staff were good , very patient and engaging getting the kids involved in the safety brief answering questions, and the little practise briefing course builds confidence for the kids before getting on the real course. My lad screaming with laughter on the zip wire, he found the whole thing tiring, challenging but enjoyed it so much, and wanted to call his mum immediately. He finished the day a dirty sweaty mess. Bring a jumper and bottle of water for when you finish, regardless of weather, and if you want, a change of clothes for the kids if you're precious about your car. A great way to fill a day, My gripe, it costs way too much to be able to do it regularly, it's a birthday thing, so once a...

As part of a stag party we went on the Segways and Go Ape. I hadn't been on a segway before but had been to other Go Ape's around the country.
Both were great fun, especially the segways - they are a lot quicker than they look once they take the limiter off. The course is good and long and quite varied - some bits of blasting along the paths and some slightly more technical parts. The guides were great fun and willing to role their eyes to our antics :D
As ever, the lack of hand-holding and challenge of the tree routes make Go Ape a great experience. It was a busy day and there was some queing, but that died away on the longer courses. There were 5 courses (including the little introductory one) but really the last 3 are the main ones.
Parking was a major hassle to begin with - there is plenty of parking but the walking route to different areas is not well sign posted. Most annoyingly none of the pay and display machines accept anything other than coins. The days of carrying change on me are fast disappearing and every person in our group had to run to the cafe to get...
