Terrible experience from start to finish. Was supposed to be a nice meal out catching up with a couple of family members and was actually the worst meal and experience that we have had in doing so. We got seated at the table and someone came to get a drinks order, we ordered 3 normal Pepsi (2 without ice) and a medium glass of White Zinfandel. The lady came back over with the soft drinks after a 10 minute wait and said that they don’t have White Zinfandel so told my aunt what wines they did have, it was clear that before going to get it that this girl didn’t know what was actually stocked in the bar. Unfortunately my aunt didn’t like the other wines that they had so ordered a lemonade. Our food order was then taken; we ordered hunters chicken with fries, a beef burger, a chicken burger with chunky chips, a plain chicken burger with nothing but cheese, and 3 sides of onion rings. When the food came out the side of onion rings with the 2 burgers turned out to be 3 small onion rings per meal charged at Ā£1.50 so 50p each, which was actually an ā€˜upgrade’ not a side. We asked where the sides of onion rings were and we got told that it was miscommunication and that’s what we’ve got, never mind the fact of when we questioned why the onion rings were on the wrong plate we got told ā€˜they were meant for you’ and then she walked away. My cousins plain chicken burger with cheese had a sauce on it, so that got sent back. Whilst waiting for the burger my cousin ordered another Pepsi with no ice, but a Pepsi max with ice got brought over so she went to swap that, only to find that the wine was still on the bill. Another burger had arrived with reheated fries, just as the other 3 of us had finished our meals and to be honest it quite glad as my cousin then found a bone in her burger! I then told the waitress, who was stood around chatting, as I walked past and her response was ā€˜well they are… I’ll come and see’ as though she was actually going to argue it with me that bones are meant to be in the burger! When I returned to the table I asked what they were doing about it and got told that the waitress didn’t say much just ā€˜sorry’ and was kind of laughing. I’ve got to say that waitresses attitude was shocking anyway, she wasn’t accommodating at all and the errors were mainly on her part but were not taken seriously at all. They then cleared the plates and we asked to see a manager who also delivered shocking customer service. We were told by the manager ā€˜yes there was miscommunication, and I got told that the rest of you are your food’ to which we replied ā€˜yes well what did you expect us to do?’ Then listed the other issues that we had and again kind of got dismissed. My mum said that she wasn’t satisfied to pay for the meal because of the experience we have had and the manager then replied with ā€˜I’ve taken the drinks off (all soft drinks) and the chicken burger with bone, there’s not much more I can do’. Not that it makes much difference but Ā£3 for the 2 portions of 3 onion rings that was miscommunicated could of been taken off or something. My aunt then said she had a 30% off voucher to use and the manager said ā€˜I thought you may of had one of those which is why I couldn’t take too much off’. At the end of the day we still had to pay Ā£46 (including voucher) for a meal which was shocking from start to finish and for poor customer service. They should be absolutely ashamed!

I had a very pleasant experience with The Folly recently when I booked a table for 25 people for my partner’s 30th Birthday celebration. I communicated with The Folly via email throughout and they were always prompt at getting back to me and answering any questions that I had. We had to give our menu choices at the latest 4 days in advance which wasn’t an issue and we had the choice from their Main Menu. The staff on the day were as friendly, welcoming and helpful as the people I spoke to via email. The food came out quickly and warm and to a high standard considering we had such a large table. Not one of our party of 25 had any issues with any of their dishes and normally whenever I have gone out for a meal with a large party there has always been someone to complain so it was nice that everyone was happy. We had a few last minute adjustments on the day; the party number (was 27 people but when down to 25) and someone wanted to change their menu choice so we rang The Folly and they were more than accommodating to get this amended. We were seated on two separate tables parallel to each other in their conservatory area which was lovely as we were away from the main restaurant and the carvery wasn’t being used so there wasn’t a lot of people by our table. The food was reasonably priced and of great quality and I was pleasantly surprised by the food service. There was a slight error on our bill at the end but only where we had cancelled someone’s meal choices off the bill when we called in the afternoon but this wasn’t a major issue and they took it straight off. We didn’t get issued with a service charge like some food places. Overall I am very happy with the good customer service, food and atmosphere that I would definitely come back to The Folly again and would book to have a large party there again in the future. I also went to The Folly for New Years Eve on 31/12/2018 for a 3-Course Meal and Live Music where again the food was lovely and reasonably priced and the staff were friendly.

Avoid at all costs, took 50mins after asking twice politely if we can order drinks and by this time we was ready to order our food, food was a further 50mins which turned up cold and gave my daughter food poisoning from undercooked chicken which was stone cold in the middle only to be told another 50 mins to wait at which point we ordered starters just to get out of the place after being there for 2 hours with very poorly cooked meals (two of which was returned in exchange for two starters…) I complained and asked for money off the bill as they agreed the service and food was disgusting… They knocked off Ā£30 off a Ā£100 bill…. Which I just paid to get out of there. Gemma was really embarrassed about the situation (waitress) but not once did the manager come to our table and spoke directly with us and no apology from management. At the age of 44 I have never experienced such poor service from an establishment. To make it the insult even worse we all got moderate food poisoning's the day after. So if you want to wait 50mins before you get asked for drinks, then 50mins wait for your (highly priced) food which turns up cold and very poorly presented (chips cut in half and under cooked, steak cremated, chicken raw in the middle, cold food which should be hot) then to be charged almost full price for the privilege and then to suffer upset tummy (stuck on the loo the following day for most of the day) then go for it. I am spreading the word to all friends and family and feel absolutely robbed and insulted by this place. AVOID IT. I have attached pictures of the two meals we was left with in a poor state to eat, each cost Ā£22.50!!!!

Lovely lady serving on the bar who was chatty and friendly. The other female member of staff serving food was also very bubbly and friendly & made us feel very welcome. The young male member of staff serving the food looked thoroughly miserable and like he didn’t want to be there!

My family and I decided to eat at The Folly as i’d received a 30% off main meal discount voucher posted through my letterbox. I’ve never eaten here before but the last time my partner ate at The Folly was several years ago when she had a disastrous experience so she was hoping that this time would be better. šŸ¤ž Although my partner has been to the pub a couple of times within the last year it was only for drinks and to watch live singers.

Our food came fairly quickly and my partner and I immediately thought that the portions were small . My elderly parents have smaller appetites so they were happy with theirs. They ordered fish & chips and scampi & chips and were satisfied.

My partner ordered the cheese and onion pie which she asked for with chips (instead of mash) and according to the menu this was served with honey roasted carrots, peas, and mange tout. On her plate, she had eight chips, no peas, three pieces of mange tout and carrots that were NOT honey roasted! There was also a very small jug of gravy which wasn’t even half full. She asked the young man who had bought the food out where the peas were and he tried to tell her that the peas were encased in their shells (unbelievably he was referring to the mange tout! šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤£) She explained that this was a totally different vegetable and that she was expecting honey roasted carrots and peas. He took her plate away and then bought it back with the addition of a small spoonful of peas. He couldn’t offer any explanation as to why the carrots that were advertised as honey roasted weren’t and were just regular boiled carrots. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

As there was such a small amount of gravy, my partner asked the young lady if she could please have some more. She confirmed that she could, but there would be a charge. We couldn’t believe what we were hearing as NEVER have either of us been asked to pay for additional gravy in any other establishment that we’ve eaten in! As her meal was quite dry, she reluctantly agreed to pay and after quite a wait, another small jug of gravy appeared. In fairness, she said the gravy tasted lovely, but I think it’s awful to be charged an additional Ā£1.99 for this!!!

I ordered the bacon cheeseburger which came with fries, but again they were a very small portion which i was disappointed by. I also ordered an additional portion of onion rings but they didn’t arrive at the table with the meals and i had to ask for them to be brought out. There was quite a wait for them to be given to me. I can confirm that i did enjoy my burger.

To conclude, the food was served hot and tasted perfectly acceptable but its a shame that the portions were so small especially as we ate from the ā€˜main menu’ and not the ā€˜lunch menu’ where it clearly states that the meals are...

Really sad to have to leave a negative review because I appreciate how hard people in this industry work however we had a really unfortunate experience this evening. We have been meaning to try The Folly for a while now having dined out at lots of other restaurants across Bristol and have only heard good things. The restaurant itself is a lovely setting and we were seated quickly, but were left scratching our heads without a menu. A few minutes later this was rectified and I made a point to ask the server if there was anything not available this evening (having been caught out elsewhere I now find myself prompting staff to deliver what must surely be a basic function of their role). Just the fries were off, not a problem as we all came wanting roasts. We ordered the sharing platter to start and 2 beef and 1 pork roasts with 2 cauli sides and 1 pigs in blankets. Whilst waiting for the starter my anxiety peaked when an empty handed waitress approached our table, sure to be serving only bad news. No pigs apparently so would we like to swap for a cauliflower side, not ideal but relatively harmless. We agreed and continued to wait. Service was relatively smooth so our sharer came moments later and it looked really lovely, only it was missing the halloumi. Another prompt to the staff and our missing component was delivered just in time to enjoy with the rest, and it was all really nice no complaints on quality or taste. Considering the speediness of the starter the mains took a little longer, not the end of the world although when the dreaded empty handed waitress appeared this time ( a different one probably due to embarrassment) I couldn't surpress my eye roll. Only one cauliflower cheese left! Would this be ok? Again not much we could do other than share so we continued to wait with anticipation for the main event. And this is where it went from bad to worse. Wrong meats served, no sauces, disgusting potatoes. We were well and truly baffled, we thought this was a popular and well reviewed restaurant. We stomached what we could and left utterly disappointed. The insult to injury ... overcharged for two cauli sides that we never received. Will not be returning and...
