Ok, so we decided on the Friday that we'd go for lunch here on Saturday. For a treat. Well, initially the greeting was friendly, we were taken to our table and given menus. After a short while our drinks order was taken. We sat, as a family, talking and passing the time. Half an hour passed. Our food order was taken next and our drinks chased. Yep, we had been that distracted as a family we ended up waiting half an hour for 3 pints. Now to the food, 40 minutes after ordering it arrived. The order was simple. A burger and chips, Some slow cooked pork and chips and a mixed grill. The burger went down a treat. 6 out of 10. The bacon was the smoked streaky kind and it was a bit limp... this is where it lost points. The pork, bang on in fact. 8 out of 10, could have been bigger. The mixed grill. When the order was placed a question was asked. If the steak is out of a fridge then I'd like it medium. If it's room temperature I'd like it blue. What I got was a grey looking bit of meat with no apparent searing mark's, lines etc. Inside, no blood. None. It had been cooked in a pressure cooking I think, likely too given the time it took to come. The chicken bit, dry and flavourless. The gammon, yep, ok. The egg, runny yoke is best, this one was not of runny yoke. The sausage, very over cooked, crunchy on one end in fact. Probably been kept warm for too long. The black pudding; besides the Gammon & chips, was the next and only other nice bit of the plate. Thankfully we only had to pay for our drinks because of vouchers. Why didn't I complain? Frankly I just wanted to go home. Will I...
Read moreNice food, well presented and served hot, not just warm. This was a return visit after a good hearty meal on our last visit and it didn't disappoint again. I went for the chicken pie on this visit the pastry was crumbly and the contents were filled the brim of the case and were very tasty in rich creamy sauce. The vegetables were cooked well and seasonal. I went went for the chips which were triple cooked and they were crunchy and nice, not just lazy oven chips you can get in other places. I also had the option of having it with mashed potato. The rest of our family had gammon, Hunters chicken, and Lasagne. All the meals were served hot and the plates were left clean. I tried a couple of different lagers San Miguel and Perroni they were cold and served in clean glasses. We were greeted with a smile and shown straight to a table which was clean and well presented. Service was good, we were advised when we arrived that there was a delay in serving food as they had a couple of large parties in however there was no real delay in serving us and we only waited what I would expect to wait for a meal to be cooked anyway. All-in-All it was a very good visit and we will return again when we next travel to Peterborough to see our...
Read moreSecond time I’ve been here in two months and it hasn’t improved. It’s got worse! Last time after ordering a vegan meal which had to be changed as the wrong dressing had been mistakenly added to the salad, I ordered coffee but no alternative milk was available due to ‘the order not coming in yet’. This time I ordered a chickpea sandwich but unfortunately there were no chickpeas! Really? In a restaurant with chickpeas meals on the menu?! I reordered the vegetable tart which came with roast potatoes and salad. The tart pastry was hard and over browned, the potatoes were served in a bowl of oil and the salad consisted of rocket, baby spinach, slithers of cucumber rind and 1/2 a radish. So greens with a splash of pink. I asked for vegan mayo as the food was dry and they actually had some! A friend was also unhappy as the gourmet salad she ordered also contained chickpeas that were the main part of the salad. Potatoes were offered as an alternative. I asked if they had alternative milk this time and was told that no, it wasn’t available because ‘out of 20 people who order tea or coffee, only one person has oat or soya so they end up throwing the rest away’ so they hadn’t got any. Overpriced...
