Cyclist take heed
To Andy [Loran] the owner [we know that as he emphatically told us he was] I have no issue about owning a cafe as a vanity project for the local community - what I abhor is condescending rudeness from the owner. I have no issue with the staff who had tried to be accommodating to us, whereas the narcissistic approach of the owner operating within the service industry left us wondering why the cafe isn't reserved for just friends and families. Andy - you should have verified with your staff before coming over as the big I-am as we'd asked their approval about leaving bikes in the entrance and then against the wooden railings - but no not at 9am or anytime is that company policy - just prams!! Needless to say we didn't get the chance to savour the culinary delights of the cafe. It may seem incredibly frivolous and a first-world problem - but cyclists don't tend to take their locks with them so may be if you were to turn the opportunity on its head and offer that as a service you might attract more custom. I won't be finding out...
Read moreThis place could be so much more. Second visit, first was after walking our dog along the river on a damp cold day. No Dogs Allowed , strange in a place in need of a refurb as it is not old by design but tired, which we love if the rest is great. It was not. If you have a dog you have to sit in a cold scruffy porch arrangement on three small tables, but the food was fabulous, service was not. We had to go and find the standard things expected in the pot on the table Lots of things missing in all of them. 2nd visit. This time I did not take a dog so that we could go inside. Again the food was great the rest was poor. Inside is a bit confusing and no one offers help even if you do manage to find anyone. Orders are only done at the bar which is where I eventually went to find help only to be told if there was no menu on our table take one off another. Coffee was great on the first visit and milk over heated on the second. Shame as this could be so much better with just a little bit of direction...

I was very disappointed!! I could not taste the brie, it was literally paper thin. I left actually wondering how they cut it so thin (as well as hungry). £9.50 for 1 piece of sourdough toast with salad, and 4 shavings of brie was very expensive. On the other hand my husband had the ham croque monsieur, with an egg with was delicious, big (2 large slices of toast) and much better value at £8.50.
Probably...
