I really wish I could give this at least two stars for the nice staff, and decent view. But I can’t. Not only did we pay extra for the room with a view, it also came with a ridiculous amount of faults. It was almost so bad, it was funny. The majority of the fixtures were broken in some form. The bathroom was seemly nice, but had a broken mirror light, the extractor fan was so loud it sounded like a frieght train (yet somehow didn’t actually do anything). Furthermore, the shower was unpleasant and the bath didn’t drain properly so you got to stand in your own filth.
Now, the beds. Oh boy. I could write a novel about how foul my sleeping was trying to manuvere the absolute vile beds. They were stained, uncomfortable, and so deteriorated. It sunk down so badly into the middle with a sharp spring that dig into your skin no matter the angle. After my first night I basically pleaded for extra bedding, a new mattress, a pillow topper- anything that could improve my sleep. Well, they provided none of that and I had the joy of sleeping on the floor as an improvement. I don’t function well, and was thankful the city of bath made up for the dreadful hotel.
The tv was old and outdated, and the cupboards handles comically came off when you tried to open the doors, revealing rusted rails. I hoped the restaurant would make up for the experience here but honestly that was a disappointment too. The food was dry and bland, and was definitely sitting under a heat lamp for quite a while before being served. Obviously pre prepared food. I could cope if it wasn’t pricing itself as fine dining food. The price we paid for that food was definitely laughable. Well, just thankful the ditzy waiter charged us for a glass of wine and not the bottle because we should’ve just straight up got a refund for it all.
All in all, skip this place. It’s under desperate need of care and renovation and is suiting for its name “old mill”. Couldn’t have gotten out of...
Read moreTHIS IS NOT A TREE STAR HOTEL! The hotel doesn’t meet basic three-star expectations, especially in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and honesty in what’s advertised. I’ve stayed in hostels that were better than this place. If you’re after a dirty, noisy, and uncomfortable room, then this place might be just what you’re looking for. The only redeeming feature is the location. Everything else falls far below expectations. The room was tiny, but I didn’t mind that as it’s a three-star place, so I wasn’t expecting luxury. But honestly, the lack of cleanliness and basic comfort was a real letdown. The room I stayed in had a paper-thin door with a noticeable gap at the bottom, so I could hear EVERYTHING happening in the hallway. I was constantly disturbed by people walking and laughing and doors slamming, since there’s no soft-closing mechanism. I could hear louder noises from the rooms across the hallway like laughs and screaming children so if you’re looking for a quiet holiday where you can sleep in even a little bit later, forget about it. Cleanliness is clearly not a priority. The lampshades above the bed were coated in dust, which is a nightmare if you have allergies. The mattress was completely worn out, sagging in the middle and long overdue for replacement. The shower was filthy, with visible mold and grime. Honestly a health hazard. As for breakfast, there’s no hot counter and very little options. The glowing reviews about it their breakfast are misleading as they are from another era. They claim to have a 24-hour reception, which is untrue. They blame staff shortages, but this looks rather like a permanent situation based on the bell. Also, they put 30£ on hold on your credit card for the breakfast if you booked with a third party. This is nonsense! Finally, parking is expensive. You’re better off parking on the main road nearby, where there’s usually space —...
Read moreWe initially had to cancel our first booking due to illness and without a doubt the customer service was exceptional (Ellie) we recieved a full refund despite booking via a third party. We rebooked and even upgraded our room. Initially, we managed to park in the small car park but had arranged to go into Bath for an evening meal. Reception advised there was no guarantee we would be able to park on our return and may need to park on the top road (not ideal). It was a very hot weekend and we were welcomed to a lovely cool air-conditioned reception area, but were quickly advised this did not extend to the rooms, but there was a fan. As we made our way up to room 112 the heat hit us. Luckily, I thought to bring our own fan from home, which was a godsend. The room had a spectacular view, the mill right outside our window, amazing! As we settled down for the night (with our 2 fans) the room was still extremely hot so we opted to open the outside door to let some air in. The mill was now in operation and did not stop until approx 7am, the fan supplied by the hotel was extremely noisy, needless to say, we did not get a good night's sleep, but it was only one night so not the end of the world. The shower ran hot and cold and the bathroom was slightly dated. On the website they advertise an English breakfast but they only offer a continental. Toast, pastries, hard boiled eggs which were fresh out of the fridge (so cold), ham, cereal etc. As we walked past reception we overheard guests checking out and being told they had to pay £10 for parking. I wonder if we would have still been charged if we had been unable to park following our meal? All in all, this is a basic hotel set in a stunning location, don't expect too much, even if you are upgrading to a £180 room. Would we come back? .Probably not, we would probably opt for the Premier...
