Gelato Lounge — Restaurant in England

Asked staff to purchase a four scoop ice cream (£5.50) but asked it to be split in to 3 paper tubs for our under 2 to share. Staff member proceeded to do so, then attempted to charge it as 3 separate ice cream orders(£9.40). When I queried that I explicitly asked for a 4 scoop order and split and that effectively I was being asked to pay £3.90 for two of the paper tubs, the staff member shrugged and said well it's classed as three orders.

Now if this was said at the outset or I was told we couldn't split a 4 scoop order like that, that would have been something but to accept my request, prep the ice cream and then pull what is in my opinion, a bait and switch and then shrug when queried is terrible customer service. As the staff were unwilling to budge or raise with a manager we declined to proceed with purchase.

Furthermore,my wife has pointed out their signage that offers the ability to purchase extra cones with your order for 50p/each, further emphasising that it is possible to split a multi scoop order.

We were visiting the local area viewing houses and did also order a pizza and chips here but due the overwhelmingly poor customer service we will not be visiting Gelato...

Finally Market Weighton has a café with originality, flair and Sunday opening. The Gelato Lounge has a very welcoming atmosphere and style. The upstairs has several sofa and table arrangements and is very informal and kid friendly, without losing a sense of Alpine style. A server of Illy coffee and a good one at that. The Americano was spot on and the price per cup is standard cafe prices. The range of ice creams was a big hit for kids and bigger kids. There is a take out out service for coffee, ice cream and cakes etc. For those in a hurry or in walking/cycling gear, there are window stools. I understand there will be outside seating in the spring/summer. This will accommodate dog owners, dogs are not allowed inside. There is a great feeling that all are welcome. For great ice cream, coffee and cakes, give it a go. The kids...

Please note that this was my experience of Gelato lounge. It's been a long time since last Visited. Believe me it will be even longer until next visit. Ordered 2 hot chocolates. I paid. I returned to the counter. I queried the price. Boy was I put in my place, I'd read the wrong price .I was made to feel very very uncomfortable in front of an almost full cafe. This person needs to learn about customer care, ie if you're having a bad day don't take it out on a customer who made a genuine mistake. Won't EVER visit again!!! Obviously no reply from the owner, surprise, surprise!You reply to good reviews but, Don't, won't to bad reviews. If I get great service at an establishment I say so, if I don't, I tell you why.
