This place is mint ! We went in just after a walk through the woods from our caravan site and decided to chill and get some food with our young daughters. The landlady was very nice, attentive and offered us a taste of the cider we fancied before we ordered it. We decided to get a hot shot parmo- my husband loves hot food but is hard to please as its never as hot as he'd like it BUT he was massively surprised with this meal and said it was possibly the hottest food he's ate! (I've never witnessed food making him cry but there was a little tear in his eye 🤣) he was well impressed. I ordered a lasagne with salad chips and garlic bread which was really tasty and again possibly the best lasagne ive had. For our 2YO daughter we ordered sausage and chips, which they gave her gravy for as requested additionally. We sat in a quiet beer garden which soon got busy and had quite the atomosphere. We were offered a parasol to shade the baby when i was feeding her. Then the landlady even came over with some ice cream for my daughter. Our experience here couldnt have been any better ! The food was phenomenal, tge service was phenomenal and we wish we lived closer as we would 100% be back there again and again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The Golden Lion is certainly trying, but after stopping here for our lunch on a day out we were left somewhat wanting. It's a lovely old building but there's much inside that needs tweaking. We ordered pie & chips as well as bangers & mash. The pie is not home cooked & I wax actually able to drum on the crust with my knife before it broke, it literally took a stab to break it open. The pie was about 1/3 full with meat which was very gristly and the chips were like mini baked potatoes each. Portion size was fine & filling, but the veg was also slightly underdone and I left most of it. A home cooked taste would go a long way in this charming little pub, I don't think we'd return.

Always a lovely place to pop into for a drink and bite to eat. Lovely beer garden which is a sun trap, well maintained and plenty of seating area. Plus it's dog friendly too! We popped in for food and drinks this time and we were not disappointed, the food was absolutely glorious, the special salt and chilli chips were unreal, the crispy chicken burger was huge, and juicy with great taste and the special vegan and gluten free veg burger was amazing too, not dry and had a great taste! Highly recommended popping in if you're in the area, staff are friendly and welcoming.

This must rate amongst one of the worst pub meals ive ever had. It seems to have good reviews so whether it had different people doing the cooking because it was between christmas and new year. But that no excuse because i still paid the same price as usual

We were told 30 minutes wait which was ok. There was a table of three who had ordered before us but that seemed to be the only table who had ordered before us. Their food came about 15 minutes after we ordered. Two more tables ordered after us. One ordered soup of the day and was still told 45 mins

After an hour the food started coming out. First one of my sons meal of over cooked gammon, chips that were disappointing to say the least and a fried egg where the yolk wasnt cooked. My son said its the first time he felt like walking out because the food was so awful

My other son had the turkey chiabatta and chips. He said the sandwich and salad were nice but not the chips - which he left

A few minutes later mine came out except it was mince with dumpling which wasnt what i ordered. I ordered the pie. the mince came with mixed veg. Not seen that type since about the 70s. Small squares of carrot, a couple of white looking veg and peas. One consolation was that my meal came with peas

I dont think my mash potato was freshly cooked. Seemed more like the frozen pellets you get. The pastry was nice but it was only a small piece of pie and some of the meat was so hard i think it needed a pneumatic drill. It made up laugh at just how hard it was. There was no way i could eat it. The gravy was just granules. Not a hint of real meat juice

It cost me nearly £50 for three meals and three diet pepsis. No issues if food was good

The bar staff were very apologetic but it wasnt their fault. Two people in the kitchen doing a small amount of meals. How would they cope when they are busy

Having looked at a recent review that is not how my pie looked. it was a slice not a whole individual pie and i only got a small portion of peas with mine - no other veg -and a big dollop of tasteless mash

The photos of meals in the last two reviews look like gourmet meals compared to ours which looked and tasted like bad hospital food

The bar staff...

Problely the worst country pub I have ever been in in my 52 years .After sitting 10 mins and the only 2 customers in the pub i approaced the bar which was sticky from stale beer and asked the barlady for 2 coke with ice and lemon she give me 2 flat glasses of coke in dirty glasses I then asked if the pie was homemade she said no they come in frozen from a quality supplier and we cook them fresh so after paying £5.95 for Steak and Ale Pie( which i admit is cheep)i waited only 8 mins and my dinner arrived I thought i have never been able to cook a pie in 8 mins on cutting or chiseling it I think is better explained the pie i have had more meat in a sandwich that was in the Pie.The condiments was covered in old food, sauce bottles were stuck in corner empty, seats was filthy then to top it off a Great Dane Dog came in with owners and sat at next table and gave a massive shake of its mouth delivering dog slaver all over our table so that was my point to leave I was going to mention it to barlady but no one at bar.Crossing the road in the butchers window there was the same pies 2 for £1.75 I thought well 100% respect to Pub landlady she did say Quality Supplier but forgot to say the butcher across the road I turned and looked at pub a had a little chuckle and said to wife do you fancy running a pub it...
