Welcoming, friendly ,and brightly coloured inside, with an African theme • Street access • Music was at a perfect sound level, especially for those who may be hypersensitive to sounds • Clean • Food, beautifully homemade • Child and dog friendly Stumbled upon Nobia and sons whilst looking for somewhere different to eat in Barnard Castle. If it hadn't of been for the sign in the window, inviting you in to try the African sharing platter, I may have passed on by! Popped me head in,to be greated with lovely smiles and inviting waves to come in. Me and my partner were seated at a colourful clothed table for two, and given some menus to look through. We chose the African platter for two, which you can buy for just one. To wash my dinner down I chose a pineapple and beetroot juice, although this was lovely, I was expecting a purple coloured juice, like i make at home. But this was more pineapple. I found this was made using beetroot powder. Surprised, but still lovely. The food arrived with a smile by Nobia, the chef, and was served hot. Chicken just fell off the bone, and melted in the mouth. The afi sauce was perfect. Plantain and walnut slices were divine. The rice and beans beautiful. For afters we had grapefruit and poppy seed slice, which was beautifully made, nice and soft n crumbly, full of flavour. This place is quite different from the norm in Barney, but with me growing up in Clapham, London, seeing a place like this is a brilliant change. The owner, family and staff are lovely, and from what I witnessed, have a great rapport with the locals, and all are known which has a nice community feel. Get yourself down, because once your there, you will come back.
The only thing I found I didn't like was the lighting, for the ambiance of the place I would personally use a warm glow bulb. So if like me you are hypersensitive, to light, ask for a seat not so close. Hence...
Read moreI visited Barnard Castle Town today, going via Gainford on the A67,a more scenic route. We stopped off at Nobia & sons restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is colourful inside and the staff are very friendly and has good customer service. I had marinated chicken with cheese toastie with an amazing Cappuccino, both costing £10.45 I then got jerk chicken and rice for supper. and pure pineapple juice for £14.95 (£3) for juice. I was slightly disappointed with the jerk chicken as it was mild, I thought there would be more of a kick. Barnard Castle is a beautiful town, mixed with high street shops, independent shops and alot of eateries. I had chicken curry with plantain takeaway on 05/09/25 Absolutely...
Read moreI was so excited to see somewhere that sold African food that me and the Mrs stopped in for lunch. African food is one of my favorites and I have some friends from there who cooked home style African food and I got a taste for it. The meal we had came straight from a microwave we could tell because we were right next to the kitchen and we could here it, the food was hot in some areas and cold in others. A guy went next door to coop because they had run out of frozen mixed vegetables which were added to both of our dishes, this really didn't appeal to ether of us. Very bland tasteless food, the highlight was the hot sauce. Very disappointing...
