Beautiful period building, polished cutlery and proper napkins. Our initial waitress mustve been her first day as she didn't know the menu or the drinks but the lady who served us after was really good and gave excellent service. The camembert starter with truffles was tasty although out order came with plain white toasted demi baguette and the other one came with posh wholemeal bread, we would've preferred the choice. Main was the four carne pizza which was about a 7 out of 10, not many toppings but good flavour and base was average. The waitress didn't know the size of the pizza when asked. The pie looked much better option with rich mash and thick gravy which my brother in law had and he said it tasted delicious. My wife had the beef sandwich and she really enjoyed it and the beef was very tender. Not every meal ordered felt like it was the same standard of quality unfortunately but still tasty. Good range of alcoholic drinks and non alcoholic Guinness which I had. Good range of soft drinks too. Spoke with the manageress after and she was excellent and...
Read moreWe go here quite regularly, and spend well over £150 a time. The food is very hit and miss this is not a cheap pub. You are expecting for £18 steak a quality product and well presented but what you get is an over seasoned incorrectly cooked and badly accompanied meal. On top of this incorrectly served drinks and staff who don't communicate with each other. At the end of our night our waiting staff had gone home and not informed the remaining staff of our complaints and our returned meals. So the remaining staff members weren't as understanding as they should of been for the type of establishment it is. In the end the staff offered us one complementary meal after there was issues with 50% of our food.
On another note if you don't like parsley then ask for none on your food or else you will end up with a field of the stuff on everything.
It is a shame as it is a really nice venue and the staff are friendly in a what is a idyllic village. It just needs competition in the village so it standards are raise to what they could...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had not been here since it had a refurbishment. We came to meet with some friends who we hadnāt seen for some years. We were shown to a nice table in the restaurant and menus were bought. For me I was not impressed with the choices on offer, there was a āspecialāsā menu which was no better. When the waiter Alex, came to take our order, although friendly, he was very pushy, trying to persuade us all to go for the specials and encouraging us to go large on the drinks and order bottles of wine instead of glasses. This continued throughout our meal. 3 of us ordered the fish & chips, 4 ordered the steak pie and 1 ordered the muscles. We all agreed that the food we had was very good, I would have liked more choices of good British dishes without the addition of other flavours like fennel or hazelnuts. Iām not sure if I would eat here again, I may go in...
