Just heard that my favourite pub Hawkshead Brewery in Staveley Cumbria has closed down as from today. My wife Nikki and I have been attending the brewery for over 12 years now travelling 90 miles from Stockton on Tees to Staveley. We have made many friends both Brewery staff and locals and really felt at home in their company. To hear that Haleswood the owners from Liverpool have decided to close it down due to costs lack of profit is Absolutely Shameful. The brewery was a Community hub for the village, with the older folk enjoying the live music on a Sunday night. You could be a muddy mountain biker, a tired walkers, dog owner with your pet dogs and you were made welcome by the fantastic Staff everytime without question This is a terrible blow for the village and local community and we will miss the Excellent beer and food, but more importantly the Brewery bar and wonderful staff. To the Managers at Halewood your lack of Compassion towards the Brewery staff is disgusting and I won't be buying your beer anymore.
Well the bar fittings have been removed I'm told so not even a chance for previous Customers to have the chance of one last visit to the Brewery bar to say there last farewell to Nikki Jack David and Callum the regular bar staff. How Callous and Uncaring of Halewood the owners not to allow the Brewery to have one last day of opening for Customers to have a last drink of Hawkshead fine beers etc.
I think the parking charges in the Mill yard will have impacted on most businesses situated there, but it was your decision to either pay them or park further in the village and walk into the yard.
Very Sad day for the Lovely Brewery staff, the brewers and admin staff upstairs.
Hawkshead brewery will always be in our hearts and the staff and friends we have made in the 12 years we have been visiting will remain friends.
Shame on...
Read moreMy partner and I came up to the brewery a few days ago (even with the country being battered by snow at the time) and we just loved it!
We had the brewery tour at 1pm (which costs around £8 a ticket) and it was very informative and was great to see that everything is pretty much hands on. Watched a short video about the history and heritage of the brewery and then went through the various stages of the brewing process.
Once the tour had finished we both then were able to redeem our beer tokens which entitles you to one pint of anything you’d like or two halves. Since my partner was the designated driver I took full advantage and had 4 halves of different beers (see pictures)
Whilst trying the beers we tried the tapas style food on offer which was fantastic! Our favourite was the spicy sausage and sweetcorn fritters. Absolutely delicious! After we’d finished up I couldn’t go home empty handed so bought a hawkshead beer gift pack and a tulip glass.
Definitely will be returning when I’m back down that neck of the woods again! Top notch brewery and all the staff are attentive...
Read moreAmazing hidden gem, absolutely worth it going out of the way to visit. Some 10 beers on draught, all amazing. They also offer a taster 4 platter, great value. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. This might be common knowledge but from Windermere, it's just a very short bus or train ride, so we really recommend going for it! I think they used to cook in own kitchen but now they're providing meals (burger or pizza menu) from neighbouring bakery. We had two burgers (the cheeseburger and katsu chicken) and while good, not amazing and felt a little too expensive for what they were. But you pay for the convenience and we were happy with the opportunity...
